Mob Set A Suspected Robber Ablaze As Two Escape In Delta

A suspected armed robber has been reportedly set ablaze by a mob in Agbarho Community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The suspect whose identity could not be ascertained was set ablaze by the mob around 8:20pm on Thursday at the popular Five-Junction in the community.

Our correspondent learnt that the suspected robber was set ablaze after dispossessing and killing his victim during a robbery incident.

It was learnt that the suspect who was a member of a three-man armed robbery gang was apprehended by residents after killing his victim.

Two of the robbers were said to have escaped.

A source said, “The suspected armed robber in his bid to escape shot indiscriminately into the air with a locally made pistol until he ran out of bullets. He was apprehended and beaten thoroughly before he was set ablaze.”

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, confirmed the incident on the telephone when contacted.

But he, however, warned residents against jungle justice, saying that the law enforcement agencies must be allowed to do their job.
