Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s son-in-law escapes assassination attempt. Prince Godswill Edward, was reportedly shot in his residence in Calabar by unknown gunmen Former President Goodluck Jonathan's son-in-law, Prince Godswill Edward, was on Friday, July 7 shot at by unknown gunmen in Calabar. NAIJ.com gathered that Edward who is the Special Adviser on Youths Affairs to Governor Ben Ayade was reportedly shot in his State Housing Estate residence. The severity of his injuries from the attack could not be ascertained as at the time of this report. He is presently receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility in Calabar, The Punch reports.
Edward, who is from Abi Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, got married to the former president's daughter, Faith in 2014. The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hafiz Inuwa, when contacted said the matter had yet to be reported officially to the police. Inuwa said: “They attempted him. This was the third or fourth time that this thing is happening. Do you know that as at now I’m talking to you there is no official report about it? We are not going to wait until the matter is reported. We are the police we know our responsibility. “Even if they have a reason for not reporting which we are not going to sit down until the matter is reported, we have the responsibility to investigate and by the grace of God we will go after those responsible.

 FG summons Cameroonian ambassador over 97 Nigerians killed in Bakassi
Cameroon’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ambassador Abbas Salahedine, has been summoned to explan alleged killings of no less than 97 Nigerians in the Bakassi Peninsula.
The summon was made by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, following reports of ill-treatment and killings of Nigerians in the Bakassi Peninsula by Cameroonian Gendarmes.
In a statement released through the ministry’s acting spokesperson, Mrs Jane Adams, the minister expressed dismay over the sad events allegedly caused by non-payment of taxes on fishing activities.
Part of the statement read, “The ministry has instructed the Nigerian Missions in Yaounde and Buea, to investigate the report with a view to confirming their veracity and inform Headquarters immediately.
“The ministry appeals to the Cameroonian authorities to exercise their duty of care and protection over the people of Bakassi, including other Nigerian citizens in the area.”
At least 97 Nigerians were allegedly killed after Cameroonian Gendarmes reportedly attacked residents of Bakassi over failure to pay a N100,000 boat levy.
It was also learnt that the attackers sacked mainly Nigerians from Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Ondo state.

The president of the Arewa Youth Coalition, Yarima Shettima, has said that IPOB leader of the Nnamdi Kanu, must not go unpunished - The Arewa youth president said the group is reviewing the quit notice issued to the Igbos - Shettima has revealed that the evacuation of the Igbo from the north was off the table Yarima Shettima, the president of the Arewa Youth Coalition (AYC), has said that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, must be punished. NAIJ.com gathered that the Shettima also disclosed that the group was reviewing its stand on the quit notice issued to Igbos living in north. “The steps taken by the governors are commendable. One, we have since expected the governors to do what they are doing now. Nevertheless, it is better late than never for.
“What the Ohanaeze and other organisations that came out to denounce the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) are doing is commendable. “We are also reviewing our own situation. We are going to have a meeting soon with other leaders of the coalition and come out with a clear position of things and what we intend to do in order to move forward,” he said. The AYC president speaking in an interview with Nigerian Tribune, noted that Kanu is someone “who has terrorised the country”. He said: “We will go as far to ensure that we take him to the international court of justice. We will internationalise his case and ensure that this young man is declared a terrorist. He can’t be allowed to go just like that. “To us, we are seeing what he is doing as a business venture. So, as far as we are concerned, a country should not be run as a banana republic where somebody can do anything and get away with it, without respect for the rule of law.” However Shettima stated that the call for the evacuation of the Igbo from the north was not totally off the table. “I am not saying we have completely removed the earlier condition that they should leave the north. However, the fact of the matter still remains that one, we are not violent. “Secondly, we intend also to explore all necessary avenues and ensure that, at the end of the day, things are being done in accordance with the law,” he said.
