Nigerian actor Samuel Ajibola has described former President Olusegun Obasanjo as a funny and fantastic actor.

This comes a few weeks after the former president featured in one of the episodes of ‘Dele Issues’, a comedy series by the actor.

Ajibola, who was a guest on Channels Television’s Entertainment News, said getting in the series was what former President Obasanjo wanted.

“He (Obasanjo) was quite interesting to work with, I like to say that. The whole thing didn’t take long, it’s a minute,” he said.

“He just read the script, he liked it and it was something he wanted to do. He is a fantastic actor and he is a funny man too.”

Ajibola, who is a graduate of Political Science from the University of Lagos, said he has been acting since he was a child.

“I have been acting almost all my life. I started acting as a young boy from age six and my first production was “Tears For Love”. I started from the church as a young boy acting,” he said.

“There is a moral burden on you to secure the lives and properties of the people of Imo State. There are 42 divisions in the state and you are going to be posted to them to work for the good of the society.”

Bishop David Oyedepo

Bishop David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, otherwise known as Winners’ Chapel, on Friday chronicled his escape from a recent incident that could have led to a crash of the plane that he was travelling in.

LR News learnt that Oyedepo was travelling from Cyprus to Israel in company with his wife and three other key members of the church.

He described the incident in a written testimony read out to the congregation by a church member during a thanksgiving service at the Canaanland headquarters of the church in Ota, Ogun State.

According to the testimony, it was the third potential plane crash that the bishop would escape.

He said the first was an incident in 1997 while travelling from Kaduna to Lagos while the second was during a Lagos flight to Kano in 1998.

In the 1997 incident, Oyedepo said “all hell broke loose” and “landing in Lagos became impossible” during a heavy thunderstorm.

He said the aircraft went up and down as the captain attempted to land during several attempts until he eventually landed.

He said, “In the second incident, one engine of our aircraft failed in-flight. On May 4, 1998, we were on a flight to Kano when I noticed our plane was going down. I went to the cockpit to ask the pilot what was going on. Then, he announced that we just lost one engine.

“Calmly, I told him to make a turn back to Lagos. We were eight on board. As soon as we landed and we were at our packing space, we heard a sound that announced the death of the second engine.”

In the third and recent incident, Oyedepo said the cause of the incident was a stabiliser trim motor failure, according to the report of the captain, Samuel Adeboga.

The bishop said, “After the failure, the auto-pilot could no longer exact the required pressure to keep the aircraft in the required altitude for stability.

“The captain disconnected the auto-pilot and returned the aircraft to the required altitude for that phase of flight. Because the aircraft was out of trim, during the take-over, the aircraft abruptly pitched up with much G-force and the captain counter-acted it with a pitch downforce.

“These two counter-forces caused the abrupt turbulence and movement in the cabin and the cargo hold. Heavy items in the cargo hold fell from their compartments and made loud bang noise. We thank the God of this great commission for making the pilot act promptly. Similar incidents in the past have resulted in fatal accidents and loss of life.”

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Rivers State has been given 30 days to vacate the premises it currently occupies at the Obio/Akpor International Market in Rukpoku Community, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

The SARS operatives in the state was also given from 19th of October till 30th of November to deliver same property to the authority of Obio-Akpor Local Government Council.

The office, which SARS used in the state, was originally built to be used as market, but because of criminal activities in the area, a building in the premises was given to the security outfit of the Nigeria Police.

But recently, there has been a face-off between SARS and some well-placed individuals in the state and Obio/Akpor in particular over alleged misconducts of the security operatives.

In the letter addressed to the SARS Commander, Akin Fakorede, and made available to Southern City News by a source close to the police, the council authorities directed SARS to leave the place.

The letter signed by Obio-Akpor Local Government Council Legal Adviser, Victor Owhonda-Wokem, indicated that the quit notice call was to enable the council to carry out major renovation work in order to commence the original purpose in which the property was built.

It read in part, “I am directed by the Local Government Council to give you one month notice to vacate and deliver possession of the premises/property of the Obio/Akpor International Market, which you presently occupy as a licensee thereof on or before 30th day of November, 2017.

“This directive is borne out of the council’s need to carry out major renovation works at the international market and to put the said property, which you occupy into full use and purpose for which it was originally acquired and built.”

Those copied in the letter included the Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, and the State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Zaki.

The Commander of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Mr  Akin Fakorede, in reply on Thursday, described the letter by LG authority as misleading and warned the council against making false claims.

Fakorede noted that the facility was originally built to serve as a police station, stressing that it was officially handed over to the State Police Command by the immediate past governor of the state, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi.

“I wish to respectively inform your good office that the Rivers State Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS) is not in possession of occupation of any premises/property of Obio/Akpor Local Government.

Senetor Ahmed Makarfi

A Federal High Court, sitting in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has restrained the Peoples Democratic Party from barring the Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe-led South-West Zonal Executive Committee and the zone’s delegates from the December 9 National Convention of the party.

It also barred the party, its officers, and organs from allowing the Eddy Olafeso-led group to participate in the convention or submit any list as South-West delegates.

Olafeso is the South-West zonal chairman of the party recognised by the national leadership of the party.

Ogundipe, however, told journalists in Abuja on Friday, that non-compliance with the court order could affect the outcome of the December 9 national convention of the party.

He urged the National Caretaker Committee of the party led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi to “uphold the rule of law because he (Makarfi) is also a product of the law.”

Makanjuola brought the court order to the national headquarters of the party in Abuja on Friday. The court sitting had earlier taken place on Wednesday.

Named in the suit numbered FHC/AD/CS/18/2017 are: Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe, Chief Adepegba Otemolu, Lanre Orimoloye, Supo Ijabadeniyi and Femi Carena.

The defendants are the Independent National Electoral Commission, PDP, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, Sen. Ben Obi, Eddy Olafeso, Wunmi Jenyo, Adeola Ogunrinde and Femi Adetola.

Others are Ojo Williams, Fasiu Bakenne, Philip Aivohji, Mrs. Oluwawumi Oshinroluke, Biliaminu Ogundele, Femi, Makinde, the Inspector General of Police and Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2, Osogbo, Commissioner of Police, Ondo State, and the Department of State Services and State Security Service, Ondo State.

Specifically, the court, which was presided over by Justice Taiwo O. Taiwo, restrained the Makarfi-led executives or their agents from “preventing the plaintiffs and other South-West delegates to the PDP national convention listed in the schedule attached to this originating summons.”

The court listed the beneficiaries of the order as Alhaji Adewole Adeyanju and Senator Buruji Kashamu, adding that they should not be barred from attending the national convection .

The judge also said that no disciplinary action should be taken against the plaintiffs “and other delegates of the party from the South-West Zone in order to prevent them from participating in the party’s national convention pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”

Justice Taiwo said, “An order of interim injunction is hereby granted restraining the 5th to 15th defendants by themselves, their servants, agents and or privies from participating in the PDP national convention scheduled to hold on the 9th of December, 2017 or any other date during the subsistence of tenure of office of the South-West Zonal Executive Committee led by the 1st Plaintiff as members of the South-West delegates of the party pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”

Ogundipe said the Senator Makarfi-led NCC and the national leadership of the party had a duty to prevent impunity and lawlessness if they were desirous of building a new PDP that would appeal to Nigerians and win elections in 2019.

He said, “I say this because Eddy Olafeso and his group never emerged from a valid South-West Zonal congress. The Federal High Court, Lagos, in a ruling delivered in Suit No.: FHC/L/CS/605/2016 on the 17th of May, 2016, the court expressly nullified the sham congress. Till date, the order has neither been set aside nor upturned on appeal.

“It should be further noted that in a final judgment delivered on the 24th of June, 2016, the court categorically stated that our tenure ends in October, 2018, having been elected at a special zonal congress held on the 11th of October, 2014 in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. The implication of this is that my executive committee remains the only validly elected and judicially sanctioned leadership of the party in the South-West.”

Ogundipe said if the party leadership acted in defiance of indubitable facts and the Rule of Law, “it will contaminate the national convention”, adding that, “our leaders should do justice and avoid anything that can jeopardise our party’s chances in 2019.”

He urged members and leaders of the party in the South-West to continue to work for the party and mobilise people for membership.

In reaction, Olafeso told our correspondent that the party was already working hard to discharge the injunction, adding that the national leadership of the party wished to reposition the PDP.

Granted Tagbo Umeike and pop singer, Davido, were very close friends when he (Tagbo) was alive, and even spent his last moments on earth with the singer, the pop artiste allegedly, could not attend the burial ceremony of the young man on Friday.

Tagbo, who allegedly died of alcohol, was buried in his home town in Anambra State and Saturday Beats reliably gathered that the singer was absent.

In a chat with Saturday Beats, the brother of the deceased, Chigbo said that although his brother’s life was cut short unexpectedly, his burial went according to plans. He said, “My brother was buried on Friday and it is so sad that we have lost someone with a big heart. However, Davido was not present at the burial neither did he send a representative but at this point, we have no comment on that.”

Chigbo seized the opportunity to clear the air on his mother’s health. Contrary to reports that his mother has stroke, the young man said that his mother was not afflicted with the ailment while also describing his late brother as someone who turned friends to brothers.

“I would also like to use this medium to correct the notion that my mother has stroke because she doesn’t. We saw the report online but it is not true.  The burial ceremony went well. I would miss my brother a lot because he had a big heart. He was not only my brother but a lot of people’s brother as well. Through my late brother, I have made a lot of friends turned brother and despite his death, I hope to still keep these wonderful people as my brothers. My sister in the UK came down for the burial. For now, we just finished burying my brother and we would want the dust to settle,” Chigbo said.

It also looks like Davido,  the self acclaimed Omo Baba Olowo (OBO) has moved one as based on the pop star’s Instagram post where he was seen striking a pose with the crown prince of Edo State. Saturday Beats gathered that the singer had a show in the state.

VP, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo

The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has restated the commitment of the Federal Government in completing the second Nigeria Bridge in the South East.

He made this known during the flag-off of the governorship campaign of the All Progressives Congress in Onitsha area of Anambra State, adding that $2bn has been paid for the project.

Professor Osinbajo said this after the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr Chris Ngige, interrupted his speech to pass him information.

“We are not making promises for nothing. The second Niger Bridge, we have been talking about it for a long time. But for the first time, President Muhammadu Buhari went by himself to negotiate the facility to do that second Niger Bridge,” the Vice President said.

“And that is why the second Niger Bridge is in our current budget and we have provided for it. In fact, I am being reminded that just two days ago, the Sovereign Wealth Fund paid $2bn for that same project. So we will definitely see our second Niger Bridge. We will not make promises we cannot keep.”

The VP went on to claim that the previous administrations abandoned the Lagos-Calabar railway project, stressing that it has been revived under the APC-led Federal Government.

“When we were talking of railway, Lagos-Calabar railway, under the old administration, I will not mention them by name.

“They said Lagos-Calabar will go from Lagos to Calabar, there was no connection to the South-East. It was when President Muhammadu Buhari came that we redesigned the Lagos-Calabar in order to pass through Onitsha in the first place.

“By that new design, we also have the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri railway that has a connection to Umuahia-Owerri and Enugu-Awka. So all of those, we will not make promises we cannot keep. Every promise we make, we will keep,” he added.

Speaking further, Mr Osinbajo also stresses that Anambra was the first state to benefit from the school feeding initiative that has employed over a thousand cooks and fed over a hundred thousand.

He added, “This state was the first state to receive our home-grown school feeding. This Anambra was the very first state that we gave money for that programme. And we have already in 807 schools, here in Anambra state where these young children (primary schools) are already fed.

“We have over a hundred thousand children that are already fed here in Anambra state, and that is an APC programme, our home-grown school feeding programme.

We have engaged over a thousand cooks, over a thousand people are cooking. We have our N-Power programme for young graduates. Already we have employed over 4,000 graduates and we intend to increase the number.”
