“When asked to give us a price for holding a great celebratory military parade, they wanted a number so ridiculously high that I cancelled it. Never let someone hold you up!” Trump said in a Twitter post.

Election Monitor, a Civil Society Organisation(CSO), has warned that further delay in passage of budget of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) may lead to constitutional crisis.
Mr Abiodun Ajijola, the group’s National Coordinator, in a statement on Friday in Abuja, said it would be counter-productive to wait until Sept. 25 to pass the budget for the 2019 Nigerian General Elections.
He said that it had become critical that the National Assembly urgently called off its recess and reconvene to ensure that there was a budget for next year’s election.
“Failure to reconvene the National Assembly to pass the INEC budget urgently and long before the official resumption is capable of plunging Nigeria into an avoidable and unnecessary constitutional crisis which must be completely avoided.
“Election Monitor calls on all senators and members of the Federal House of Representatives to put Nigeria first and put partisan politics in the back seat.
“Election Monitor commends the Senate Committee on INEC and House Committee on Electoral Matters for its current INEC budget review activities.
“However, the leadership of the National Assembly is expected to reconvene the legislature and pass INEC’s budget at the earliest possible date to ensure that the commission is able to effectively prepare for the 2019 general elections,’’ he said.
Ajijola said that it was regrettable that with just six months to the first set of elections, the budget for the elections had yet to be passed.
INEC had proposed a budget of N189.21billion for the conduct of the 2019 General elections.
The total budget waiting National Assembly approval is 242.45 billion with the difference going for security.

The Police Command in Abia has arrested one Amarachi Chinedu, over her alleged involvement in the sale of a one-day-old baby boy in Aba.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Anthony Ogbizi, said in Umuahia on Thursday that the woman was arrested with two others for their alleged involvement in the deal.
The suspect, who claimed to be a prophetess, was arrested with the 17-year-old mother of the baby, Chinanu Monday, and the man who allegedly impregnated her, Promise Lazarus.
Monday told newsmen in an interview that she was delivered of her baby in the home of the prophetess and after the delivery “they took the baby away and sold him.”
She said that she was not involved in the deal as she was not given any money and did not know the buyer and whereabouts of her baby.
“When I was pregnant, Lazarus took me to the woman and she took delivery of the baby in her home.
“After the baby was delivered, they took him away and sold him,” she said.
She said that she took in for Lazarus in December when they both met.
Lazarus and the prophetess, however, denied the allegation and described the girl’s story as baseless.
Lazarus said that he met the girl in March, contrary to her claim that they met in December.
“She told me in April that she was pregnant and I told her that I would come to her parents for introduction with drinks and kola nuts.
“Surprisingly, while I was making plans to visit her parents, policemen came to my house and arrested me, accusing me of child trafficking,” Lazarus said.
The prophetess described the allegation as unfounded, saying that the girl was never pregnant and could not have given birth to a baby.
“I want the girl to be examined by a medical doctor to ascertain if she gave birth to a baby,” she said.
Also in police net are 19-year-old Mary Friday and 20-year-old Chinyere Achonna, who were arrested at an alleged baby factory at Umunkpei in Isialangwa North Local Government Area of the state.
The girls said that they were impregnated by their boyfriends and introduced to the baby factory, where they would be taken care of before their possible dates of delivery.
Mr Paragon Kelechi, 52, who was arrested along with the two expectant mothers, said he took them to Umuahia to be scanned when they were arrested.
Kelechi said that he was asked to assist to take the girls to Umuahia by the owner of the baby factory, popularly known as Mma.
The police also arrested and detained one Mrs Ogechi Sunday, a civil servant, for allegedly using a hot knife to burn the buttocks of her maid.
Sunday told newsmen that she took the measure to tame the 14-year-old, Mary Sunday (not her relation).
“The girl was fond of eloping each time I sent her on errands, so on this last occasion I decided to take a drastic action to force her to disclose why she usually returned late from errands.
“So I put the kitchen knife on a lighted stove and when she eventually returned, I spanked her on the buttocks with the hot knife,” she said.
She however expressed regrets for her action, saying that she was moved by anger.
Also, the command paraded six gay suspects, arrested at a hotel in Aba, following a tip-off from the hotel manager, Mr Peter Okeke.
Okeke told newsmen that two of the suspects checked into the hotel on Sunday and paid for one room.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the National Assembly to reconvene without further delay.

The party made the call on Friday in a statement by its acting National Publicity Secretary, Mr Yekini Nabena.

“The National Assembly must be convened immediately,” it said.

It asked the legislature to urgently consider the crucial budget of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the general elections.

The APC said the sanctity of the nation’s electoral system was being threatened by an alleged plot to frustrate the efforts of the Executive, particularly INEC in the run-up to the polls in 2019.

It also accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Senate leadership of an attempt to hide under the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, in order to draw attention away from the reconvening of the National Assembly.

The party said, “The Electoral Amendment Bill passed by the National Assembly is alive and awaiting assent.”

“However, assent to bills in all democratic governments reflects the prudence and discretion of the President in balancing the powers of key constitutional bodies and understanding the concerns of the executive,” it added.

The APC asked Nigerians to speak up and ensure that the National Assembly performs its duties in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution.

It also called on the civil society and international community to condemn the “ongoing travesty and legislative rascality being perpetuated” by some individuals.

The APC was confident that the success recorded so far by the Muhammadu Buhari administration would earn the party the victory it deserved in the forthcoming elections.

It said, “The PDP has realised that the 2019 elections have been won and lost. If the election is held today, it is clear that the APC will win by a landslide judging by visible and landmark achievements recorded by the President Buhari administration.”

The statement comes two days after the Presidency reacted to the controversy surrounding the Electoral Act Amendment Bill.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says the aggregate foreign exchange inflow into the country increased to $91billion in 2017.

The apex bank revealed this in its ‘Draft 2017 Annual Report’ published on Wednesday.

It said the figure represents an increase of 45 per cent, from the $62.75 billion recorded in 2016.

According to the report, inflow through the CBN was $42.17 billion while inflow through autonomous sources amounted to $48.33 billion dollars.

At the same time, aggregate FOREX outflow from the economy increased by 31.8 per cent to $33.68 billion, compared to the total of $25.55 billion reported in 2016.

The CBN attributed the increase in foreign exchange inflow to its sustained intervention at the inter-bank and Bureau de Change segments of the FX market.

The report read in part, “Aggregate foreign exchange inflow into the economy rose by 45.0 per cent to US$91.00 billion, compared with US$62.75 billion in 2016. A disaggregation showed that inflows, through the CBN and autonomous sources, were US$42.17 billion and US$48.33 billion, constituting 46.3 and 53.7 per cent, respectively, of the total.

“A further analysis showed that foreign exchange inflow, through the CBN, rose to US$42.17 billion, compared with US$21.07 billion in 2016. A breakdown of foreign exchange inflow, through the CBN, showed that earnings from crude oil export increased by 1.9 per cent to US$10.37 billion, above the level in 2016.

“The development was attributed to price and output of crude, both of which rose relative to the preceding period. Similarly, the non-oil component of the inflow, through the Bank, rose by 192.2 per cent to US$31.80 billion in 2017, above the level in the preceding year. This was due mainly to: increase in foreign exchange purchases; government debt proceeds; securities lending cash collateral; and TSA and third-party receipts.”
