Speaking in a statement by his Special Assistant, Peter Eze, Kalu said the attack is the worst form of barbarism and wickedness on South East soil.

Former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has condemned the gun attack on worshippers at a Catholic Church in Ozubulu, Anambra State.
Speaking in a statement by his Special Assistant, Peter Eze, Kalu said the attack is the worst form of barbarism and wickedness on South East soil.

He called on both the Federal and State Governments to get to the root of the attack and ensure that no such terror is visited on worshippers in any part of the country.

According to him, worshippers should be free to worship God without fear of terrorist attacks.
He said those who masterminded the Ozubulu attack must be brought to book and judicially punished.

Kalu said: “News of an armed attack on worshippers at St.Philips Catholic Church in Ozubulu in Anambra State hit me with a shock. As I send this, I still am unable to fathom the rationale behind such barbarism and clear wickedness.

“It is very depressing and no reasons justify such act of terror. It is condemnable. It is wrong. It is uncalled for. We do not need further bloodshed in Nigeria.

“I urge the security agencies, Federal and state governments and all local security apparatus to ensure that those behind this barbaric act, and their sponsors, are exposed and made to face the full wrath of the law.
“We can’t continue like this. No one, no matter how highly placed, should get away with such acts.

“While I commiserate with families of victims of the attack and the Catholic Church in Anambra State, the state government and Nigeria at large, I also wish to call on all Nigerians to remain vigilant at all times and report suspicious movements around them to nearby vigilantes and Police.”

Kalu also urged the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to beef up security around places of worship across the country so as to protect worshippers.

The spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Sani Usman, said this in a statement on Saturday in which the Nigerian Army appealed for such practice to be stopped
The Nigerian Army has accused some parents and guardians, especially those in the North East, of donating their daughters or wards to Boko Haram to use as suicide bombers.
The spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Sani Usman, said this in a statement on Saturday in which the Nigerian Army appealed for such practice to be stopped.
Usman said in the statement: “The Nigerian Army wishes to appeal to religious, traditional and community leaders, as well as all well-meaning Nigerians especially in the North East of our country, to help dissuade people from donating their daughters or wards, to Boko Haram terrorists for indoctrination and suicide bombing missions.

“This appeal became expedient in view of recent revelations by some intercepted female suicide bombers during interrogations.
“It was discovered that most of these hapless minors were ‘donated’ to the terrorists sect by their heartless and misguided parents and guardians, as part of their contribution to the perpetuation of the Boko Haram terrorists’ dastardly acts against the Nigerian society and humanity.

“The acts of these parents and guardians are not only barbaric, but condemnable and unacceptable. Nigerians have a responsibility and obligation to collectively mould our children and wards and define a better future for them rather than condemning them to death by the criminal Boko Haram terrorists and their sympathizers through suicide bombings.

“Consequently, the public are kindly requested to be more vigilant, security conscious and report any suspicious persons or those whose daughters or female wards are missing or have not been seen recently. You can report by calling 193 on any network.

“The public is also please reminded that the Nigerian Army’s offer and reward of the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N500,000.00) to anybody that brought information about suicide bombing, is still available.”

DSC_0580.jpgOviawe gave the explanation during an inspection tour of some public schools where students are currently writing the Junior Secondary School Certificate Examination in the state.

The Special Adviser to Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State on Basic Education, Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe, has explained that the recent ban by the State Government on the use of premises of public schools for social activities would check vandalism of government infrastructure.

Oviawe gave the explanation during an inspection tour of some public schools where students are currently writing the Junior Secondary School Certificate Examination in the state.

Oviawe said the ban would create an effective line of communication and strengthen the harmonious relationship between schools and communities where they are located.

“With such a measure in place, communities will take over ownership of the infrastructure as critical stakeholders and put the problem of vandalism behind them,” she stressed.
She added that the conduct of the examination has been peaceful and orderly without disruptions at the centres visited by her team.

She said: “I want to commend the authorities of the various schools we have visited for the orderly manner the examinations are being conducted.
“There are some challenges that are surmountable and we will improve on the entire process after critically reviewing the findings of our visits.”

Speaking to newsmen on the tour, the Principal of Oredo Girls Secondary School, Patience Onwodi, said it was timely and would strengthen the education system and create an avenue for constructive review of developments in the sector if it is done regularly.

Onwodi noted that the Junior Secondary examination so far has been peaceful without any form of disruption in her school and called on the government to help renovate a dilapidated structure in the school premises to provide more classrooms for students.

The Principal of Uselu Secondary School, Nosa-Ehigie Adesua, called on the state government to intervene in the land grabbing activities of developers, the host community and a church.

Oviawe and her team visited schools in Egor, Oredo and Ikpoba-Okha local government areas of the state.
The schools visited included Imaguero College, Oredo Girls, Niger College, St. Maria Goretti and Edo Boys.

Usain-Bolt-in-last-individual-race-1280x720.jpgJamaican superstar Bolt waved farewell to individual athletics without the fairy tale victory as American Gatlin romped home at the London Stadium

Usain Bolt has blamed his dodgy starts for his shock 100m defeat to Justin Gatlin.
Jamaican superstar Bolt waved farewell to individual athletics without the fairy tale victory as American Gatlin romped home at the London Stadium.
The eight-time Olympic champion eventually came third as Christian Coleman also pipped him to silver.

Bolt complained about the starting blocks at the World Championships after his heat victory on Friday night.
And Bolt, who will say goodbye to the sport after the 4x100m relay next Saturday, refused to lay liability at the blocks and instead held himself responsible for his frustrating exit.

Bolt told the BBC: “The start is killing me. Normally I get better though the rounds.
“It felt like it was there but the reason I lost was because I couldn’t get it. You have to transition.

“I didn’t get the transition right and tightened at the end which you should never do.
“I ran shoes in warm up and a I felt smooth but I didn’t execute when it matter.
“These aren’t the best blocks. I was not fully comfortable with them.
“But you have to work with what you have.”
