The cash-flush Dubai Police Force, the only one in the world using Aston Martins, Bentley Continentals, Bugatti Veyrons, Ferraris, Mercedes-Benzes and Porsches as patrol cars, will become the first to use flying motorcycles to patrol the skies.

The “Hoversurf Scorpion 3 Hoverbike (S3 2019)” is an electric Vertical Take-off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft that looks much like a terrestrial motorcycle but without the wheels. It can hover five meters above the ground and can fly at speeds reaching 400 km/h, making it faster than any motorcycle or car.

This eVTOL was developed by California-based Russian start-up, Hoversurf. The company unveiled a prototype of this hoverbike in 2017 to the Dubai Police Force at the Gitex Technology Week held in Dubai, and drew immediate interest. Hovercraft signed a deal with Dubai that same year.

Living-up to its end of the deal, Hoversurf has now presented the Dubai Police Force with the first serial production unit of the S3 2019 Hoverbike and has begun training police officers to fly it.

S3 2019 is technically a single-seat hovering aircraft that combines a motorcycle seat with quadcopter drone technology. This combination results in speed, agility and stability in flight. Hoversurf claims both amateurs and professional pilots can fly this machine.

Brigadier Khalid Nasser Alrazooqi, general director of Dubai Police Force's artificial intelligence department, described S3 2019 as a first responder unit that will access hard to reach areas. He said the force aims to have the S3 2019 on patrol by 2020.

"Currently we have two crews already training (to pilot the hoverbike) and we're increasing the number," he said.

Hoversurf COO Joseph Segura-Conn said ideal candidates to pilot the S3 2019 will have to know how to ride a motorcycle and drone operating experiences. He said the Dubai Police Force has exclusive rights to order as many units as they want.

"They're going to let us know in the next month or two if they'd like any more ... If they would like 30 or 40, we'll make it happen for them."

An Emiratee police officer stands next to a drone motorcycle at the Gitex 2017 exhibition at the Dubai World Trade Center in Dubai on October 8, 2017. Dubai will be the first country to use flying motorcycles in its police force.
Video of one Dubal police officer learning to pilot the S3 2019 was posted online in February.

Hoversurf will also sell a civilian version of the S3 2019 to the public over the next few years. The civilian model is expected to retail at $150,000. Hoversurf is now accepting orders.

Segura-Conn, however, warns buyers will be screened to ensure they can handle the potentially dangerous new flying machine. In the U.S., a hoverbike meets Federal Aviation Administration guidelines. That means anyone that wants to fly the Hoversurf hoverbike in these United States won’t need a pilot's license.

As the world marks the International Day of Happiness, Nigeria is ranked 85 out of 156 countries and second in sub-Saharan Africa.
This is according to the annual Global Happiness Policy Report produced by the Global Happiness Council, which was released on Wednesday.
It was edited by John F. Helliwell, Richard Layard, Jeffrey D. Sachs, et al.
Nigeria’s ranking is an improvement from its 91 position ranking in 2018.
Finland came first as the happiest country in the world for the second year in a row, followed by Denmark, Norway, Iceland and the Netherlands.
The world’s least happy country is South Sudan followed by Central African Republic, Afghanistan, Tanzania, Rwanda, Yemen, Malawi, Syria, Botswana and Haiti.
The report ranks countries on six key variables that support wellbeing: income, freedom, trust, healthy life expectancy, social support and generosity.
This is the seventh World Happiness Report; the first was released in April 2012 in support of a UN High level meeting on “Wellbeing and Happiness: Defining a New Economic Paradigm”.
The report presented the available global data on national happiness and reviewed related evidence from the emerging science of happiness.
It showed that the quality of people’s lives can be coherently, reliably, and validly assessed by a variety of subjective wellbeing measures, collectively referred to then and in subsequent reports as “happiness.”
This year, the focus was on happiness and community: how happiness has been changing over the past dozen years, and how information technology, governance and social norms influence communities.
The report showed that the annual data for Finland have continued their modest, but steady upward trend since 2014.
So that dropping 2015 and adding 2018 boosts the average score, thereby putting Finland significantly ahead of other countries in the top 10.
Denmark and Norway have also increased their average scores.
The United States came in the 19th place, dropping one spot since last year and a total of five spots since 2017.
On the whole, Helliwell said: “What stands out about the happiest and most well connected societies is their resilience and ability to deal with bad things.
“After the 2011 earthquake and now the terrorist attack in Christchurch, with high social capital, where people are connected, people rally and help each other and (in after the earthquake) rebuild immediately,’’ he said.

Forty people were killed and more than 20 seriously wounded in shootings at two mosques in New Zealand on Friday, in what Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said was a terrorist attack.

The massacre by at least one gunman during Friday prayers in the city of Christchurch is the country’s worst ever mass shooting and was condemned throughout Asia.

“We believe that 40 people have lost their lives in this act of extreme violence,” Ardern said.

“It is clear that this can now only be described as a terrorist attack.”

Ardern said New Zealand had been placed on its highest security threat level. She said four people in police custody held extremist views, but had not been on any police watchlists.

Video footage widely circulated on social media, apparently taken by a gunman and posted online live as the attack unfolded, showed him driving to one mosque, entering it and shooting randomly at people inside.

Worshippers, possibly dead or wounded, lay huddled on the floor of the mosque, the video showed. Reuters was unable to confirm the authenticity of the footage.

One man who said he was at the Al Noor mosque told media the gunman was white, blond and wearing a helmet and a bulletproof vest. The man burst into the mosque as worshippers were kneeling for prayers.

“He had a big gun … he came and started shooting everyone in the mosque, everywhere,” said the man, Ahmad Al-Mahmoud. He said he and others escaped by breaking through a glass door.

Radio New Zealand quoted a witness inside the mosque saying he heard shots fired and at least four people were lying on the ground and “there was blood everywhere”.

Ardern said 30 people were killed at the Al Noor mosque, the city’s main mosque, and another 10 at a mosque in the suburb of Linwood.

“This is one of New Zealand’s darkest days,” she said.

New Zealand’s Police Commissioner Mike Bush said four people – three men and a woman – had been taken into custody.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said one of the men in custody was Australian.

Police said IEDs, improvised explosive devices, were found with a vehicle they stopped.

The online video footage, which appeared to have been captured on a camera strapped to the gunman’s head, showed red petrol canisters in the back of his car, along with weapons.

The online video footage, which appeared to have been captured on a camera strapped to the gunman’s head, showed red petrol canisters in the back of his car, along with weapons.

All mosques in New Zealand had been asked to shut their doors, police said.

The Bangladesh cricket team was arriving for Friday prayers when the shooting occurred but all members were safe, a team coach told Reuters.

Political and Islamic leaders across Asia expressed their disgust at the deadly shooting.

“Indonesia strongly condemns this shooting act, especially at a place of worship while a Friday prayer was ongoing,” Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said in a statement.##

Burundi has forced the United Nations to shut its local human rights office after 23 years, the U.N. human rights chief Michelle Bachelet said in a statement on Tuesday, expressing “deep regret”.
Bachelet said Burundi’s government had declared that it had made sufficient progress in human rights, so that the existence of the U.N. office was no longer justified.

A helicopter carrying Nepal’s Tourism Minister Rabindra Adhikari has crashed in the country’s mountainous region of Tehrathum district.
The helicopter was flying in bad weather with six people on board, including the tourism minister.
Nepal’s Tourism Minister Rabindra
Adhikari was among the people who boarded the helicopter when it left Kathmandu.
Nepal Police spokesman Uttam Raj Subedi, however, said it was not clear if he got off the aircraft when it made a stop before it lost contact with the airport tower in Kathmandu.
He said rescuers were searching for the chopper, but the weather was making the operation difficult in an area about 400 kilometers (250 miles) east of the Nepalese capital.
But the Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed that all six on board, including the tourism minister, are dead in the chopper crash.

Google has acknowledged that it made an error in not disclosing that one of its home alarm products contained a microphone. Product specifications for the Nest Guard, available since 2017, had made no mention of the listening device. But earlier this month, the firm said a software update would make Nest Guard voice-controlled.

On Twitter, concerned Nest owners were told the microphone "has not been used up to this point”. The Nest Guard is one component in the Nest Secure range of home security products. The system includes various sensors that can be monitored remotely by the user Nest Guard is an all-in-one alarm, keypad, and motion sensor but, despite being announced well over a year ago, the word “microphone” was only added to the product’s specification this month. The change coincided with the announcement that it was now compatible with Google Assistant.

In response to criticism, Google said on Tuesday: "The on-device microphone was never intended to be a secret and should have been listed in the tech specs. That was an error on our part.”

It added: “The microphone has never been on and is only activated when users specifically enable the option. Security systems often use microphones to provide features that rely on sound sensing. We included the mic on the device so that we can potentially offer additional features to our users in the future, such as the ability to detect broken glass.”

The firm's mea culpa has been accepted as genuine by many company watchers, but some say it still raises significant privacy concerns.

Power outage in Berlin

Tens of thousands of Berlin residents expressed optimism on the restoration of power supply on Wednesday after a mishap at a construction site which plunged households and businesses into darkness.
City officials said a worker on a bridge renovation project accidentally severed a critical power connection around 2 pm (1300 GMT) on Tuesday, cutting off energy to the city’s eastern Koepenick district.
The outage affected more than 30,000 households and 2,000 businesses.
Schools and day care centres in the affected area were expected to stay closed on Wednesday while workers laboured to fix the situation.
“This is a demanding job that is simply going to take a little time. That’s why this blackout is taking significantly longer than previous power outages,’’ said a representative for power company Vatenfall.
Workers were hoping to have the electricity back on or around 3 pm on Wednesday.
Many of the affected buildings rely on electricity for their heat, meaning residents had to tough out a cold night, despite relatively mild daytime February temperatures this week.
Vattenfall said heat could only be restored to the 5,000 affected residences once the power is back on.
There is also a hospital in the affected region.
Emergency crews set up an additional power supply to help the hospital get through the night, while some patients in need of extra care were transferred to other facilities.
Police have been out on affected streets in extra numbers to help ensure order.
Many traffic lights were not working, and tram lines were unable to run without power.
Adding to the problems, neither landline nor mobile phones were working in the region.

US Senator, Bernie Sanders

Bernie Sanders, the US independent senator from Vermont whose 2016 presidential campaign helped energize the progressive movement and reshaped the Democratic party, has entered the 2020 race for the White House.

In an email to supporters on Tuesday morning, Sanders, a self-styled Democratic socialist who spent much of his nearly 30-year congressional career as an outsider on the political fringe, cast his candidacy as a way to accomplish the mission he started three years ago when he ran against Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination.

“Together, you and I and our 2016 campaign began the political revolution,” he said. “Now, it is time to complete that revolution and implement the vision that we fought for.”

Sanders, 77, running as a Democrat again, believes he can prevail in a crowded and diverse field that includes several female and minority candidates, then beat Donald Trump, whom he called in the email “the most dangerous president in modern American history”.

A report by a Commons committee has detailed Facebook's use of an application to "spy" on users.

The cross-party group said that Facebook used its Onavo virtual private network (VPN) app to gather information on competitors.

The MPs claim Facebook "intentionally and knowingly violated both data privacy and anti-competition laws".

The report, which is more than 100 pages long, also details the influence of fake news on the site in elections.

The Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee wrote that through the use of Onavo, which was billed as a way to give users an extra layer of security, Facebook could "collect app usage data from its customers to assess not only how many people had downloaded apps, but how often they used them".

The report added: "This knowledge helped them to decide which companies were performing well and therefore gave them invaluable data on possible competitors. They could then acquire those companies, or shut down those they judged to be a threat."

A graph the committee includes in the report shows an analysis of data collected with Onavo, detailing how commonly apps were used by Facebook owned and rival services.

The Flying Eagles again lost on 4-5 penalty shoot –out as South Africa’s Amajita picked up the bronze medals of the 2019 Africa U20 Cup of Nations in Niamey.

Failure to put away a number of opportunities that came their way proved fatal for the seven –time champions, who endured the humiliation of finishing outside the medals’ range at the tournament for the first time.

Peter Eletu, who was starting for the first time as the Nigerian camp tried to lift the morale of the boys following Wednesday’s penalty shoot-out defeat to Mali in the semi finals, fluffed what was a good opportunity in the 32nd minute when the ball fell invitingly to him just outside the Amajita’s eighteen –yard box during an onslaught. He instead hooked the ball listlessly over the bar.

The unflattering features of poor passes, aimless shots and pathetic lack of marksmanship that saw the Flying Eagles end up with the wrong end of the stick on Wednesday were again in full flow, and the encounter was a stinging reminder of the fact that Aigbogun and his assistants have to re-jig the squad before the World Cup finals in Poland in three months’s time.

Alhassan Adamu, who scored the goal against host nation Niger Republic that made the Flying Eagles finish at the top of Group A and earn a place at the World Cup, fluffed Nigeria’s first kick in the shoot –out, following a dismal show by both teams in regulation time.

South Africa scored all their kicks to pocket the bronze medal and of course the bragging rights after both teams finished their Group A clash scoreless on Matchday 2. The competition comes to an end on Sunday, as the impressive Lionceau du Teranga lock horns with Mali’s Junior Eagles in the final match.

For the first time in years, Coca-Cola is introducing a new Coke flavor: Orange Vanilla.

The new drink will hit shelves later this month. It's a way to encourage customers who are seeking more variety to stick with Coke rather than pick up a different soda, said Kate Carpenter, brand director for Coca-Cola Trademark, which includes Coke, Coke Zero and flavored Cokes.

The beverage company decided to add to and revamp its flavor offerings — Cherry Coke, Cherry Coke Zero, Vanilla Coke and Vanilla Coke Zero — after the successful launch of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar last year, Carpenter said. The new flavor will also come in a Zero Sugar version.

The beverage company is introducing new graphics on the Cherry and Vanilla packages for a "bit of a facelift," she said.

Once Coke decided to pursue a new flavor, Carpenter's team scanned Coke's international market for ideas. They considered a few options, including raspberry, lemon, and ginger, which performs well for the company in Asia.

Orange Vanilla Coke, which was available for a limited time in Canada last summer, caught their attention. They tested the flavor in the US market, where it was well received.

Consumers said the flavor was "unique and different in the flavored cola category," which is dominated by cherry, Carpenter said. Importantly, they also said they'd buy it in addition to a regular Coke, rather than replacing it. And the flavor, though "unexpected," was still "familiar," she said.

A local court in Karachi, Pakistan, directed the police department on Friday to register a case against a woman who crushed a cat under her car.
The case was filed by a citizen, Faiq Jagirani, who argued that all over the world animal rights are protected. The police and courts should take measures to ensure that animals were protected, she added.
The incident occurred on February 1 in the jurisdiction of Darakshan Police Station in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase VIII. The accused ran her car over the cat, crushing it and killing it.
Jagirani, who was present at the scene, demanded the cat be provided medical assistance and on refusal, sought police help. When the police refused to register the cat’s murder case, the petitioner approached the court.
Animal rights was first enacted in 1998, stating that animals are living entities capable of feeling, suffering and expressing happiness”; therefore, “respecting them and ensuring that they would generally feel good shall be everyone’s moral obligation.

A group, calling itself Interparty Coalition for National Sovereignty, is demanding the immediate resignation of the National Security Minister and that of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for allegedly losing control of the country’s security.

Reading the petition of the group after its demonstration on Thursday, February 7, 2019, the Convenor of the group and Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Mr Bernard Monah, said the National Security Minister has compromised the country’s security by recruiting illegal and unqualified party vigilante groups members into the country's security architecture.

He said whilst the police has denied knowledge of the masked and helmeted men who visited harm on some voters at the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency by-election on Thursday, January 31, 2019, the Minister in charge of National Security at the office of the President, Mr Bryan Acheampong, has admitted publicly of having deployed the said security officers.

“We demand immediate and unequivocal resignation of the Minister for National Security, Mr Kan Albert Dapaah, the Minister of State in charge of National Security, Mr Bryan Acheampong for unlawfully recruiting unqualified miscreants and hoodlums and equipping them with state-owned military and police weapons and accoutrements to commit this heinous and barbaric crime,” Mr Monah said.

Germany's competition regulator has told Facebook to substantially restrict how it collects and combines data about its users unless they give it explicit consent. The watchdog has carried out a probe into the social network following concerns that members were unaware of the extent of the firm's activities. It covered data gathered from third-party sources as well as via Facebook's other apps, including Instagram. The US firm has said it will appeal.

Specifically, the FCO has ruled that:

  * Facebook's various services - including WhatsApp and Instagram - can continue to collect data, but they cannot combine the information with a user's main Facebook account unless the member gives their voluntary consent

  * Collecting data from third-party websites and assigning it to a Facebook user's account is likewise only allowed if that member has given the firm permission

A Ugandan Disc Jockey,  identified as Jerry Okirwoth, was reportedly killed by concert-goers for playing ‘boring music’.

The DJ who was killed in a disco hall in Nebbi District, Northern Uganda, was a part-time DJ and student at Parombo Secondary School in Uganda.

He was reported to have been killed for failing to play their favourite songs, says an online media platform, Tina! Magazine.

Meanwhile, the Nebbi Resident District Commissioner, William Bob Labeja, who confirmed the incident in a press conference blamed the management of the facility who according to him failed to protect the late disc jockey.

“As the head of security in the district, I will no longer allow any disco operators to conduct their businesses in the sub-county and anybody who defies the directive will be prosecuted.

All disco halls in all sub-counties must be closed because they are causing insecurity and redundancy among the youth,” he said.

In 2014, three Zimbabwean men were charged with murder after assaulting a DJ on Independence Day for playing ‘boring music’.
Elson Samuel Tirivavi, 22, suffered severe head injuries after he was hit with a chair and a bottle in the ensuing fight.

Seven Bridges, allegedly killed himself at his Kentucky home

It was a moment of sorrow and sadness after a 10-year-old boy Seven Bridges, allegedly committed suicide after he was criticised at school for wearing a colostomy bag.

Bridges, from Kentucky, hanged himself at his family’s home on Saturday while his mother was out on grocery shopping, WHAS-TV reported.

The child’s mother, Tami Charles, said she found him hanging inside a closet.

“I saw my son dead. That’s something in my head,” Tami Charles told the station.

Bridges was born with an unspecified bowel condition and endured 26 unsuccessful surgeries to fix the issue, WDRB-TV reported.

The ailment resulted in the need to wear a colostomy bag. A colostomy bag collects waste from a portion of the colon outside the body, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Bullies reportedly targeted the child over the smell from the bag. Bridges endured months of repeated bullying, his mom told the station.

“JCPS: You all failed my baby,” Charlies said of her son’s school district. Charles told the station that the family “absolutely” plans to take legal action against Jefferson County Public Schools. The district has opened an investigation, but couldn’t comment on pending litigation.
