Less than 24 hours after the commissioner of police in Abia state, Etim Okon joined the DIG Anthony Ogbizi to speak on strategies and level of preparedness of the state command for the governorship and House of Assembly elections scheduled for this Saturday, a fresh CP, Awosola Awotinde has been sent to take over from him.

Awotinde, upon arrival, met with heads of all the sister security agencies at the police headquarters in Umuahia to familiarise with them as the new CP.

He also called on the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Dr. Joseph Iloh, to acquaint him on developments and possibly give him assurances of the police commitment to work.

In an interview with newsmen on Friday, CP Awotinde stated that he has no problems getting the job done as a professional irrespective of location.

He also solicited the cooperation of sister agencies in the discharge of their duties for Saturday’s elections.
Etim Okon has been moved to Ebonyi state where Awotinde came from to replace him.

Hajiya Hauwa Yusuf, the mother-in-law to Katsina state governor, Aminu Masari, has been reportedly kidnapped.

According to Daily Trust, she was kidnapped by armed men on masks at about 3am on Friday at her residence in Dandume crescent, Katsina layout of the metropolis.

It was learnt that other people who live in the house were thoroughly beaten just as their mobile telephones were carted away.

As at the time of filing this report, the Spokesman of Katsina command, SP Gambo Isah was not reachable.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Akwa Ibom State has been gutted by fire, less than 24 hours to the governorship and House of Assembly elections.

The immediate cause of fire at the INEC office located at Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of the state, remains unknown, but information had it that the fire started around 2:00 a.m. early Friday morning.

Sensitive election materials, including card readers were said to have been destroyed by the fire.

An ex-soldier, Mr Danie Efe, has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for being a member of a syndicate that specialises in car theft in the state.

The acting Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Chuks Orisewezie, who stated this on Thursday at the police headquarters Asaba, said 32-year-old Efe, a native of Agbarho in the Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state, was intercepted with one Toyota Corolla car with a fake number plate, PBT 214 AA, along the Sapele-Benin Road by the Safer Highway Patrol team.

“After preliminary investigation, the suspect and the exhibit were transferred to the State Intelligence and Investigation Department, Asaba, where a thorough investigation was conducted and the suspect confessed to the crime and admitted to being a member of the syndicate,” Orisewezie stated.

On Monday, another syndicate was also intercepted on the same route with a Toyota Corolla carrying a fake number plate, KMK 129 AE, driven by one Julius Osagba, a native of Mosogar in the Ethiope West Local Government Area of the state.

The PPRO said the suspects would soon be charged to court and warned criminals to stay away from the state or be ready to face the full weight of the law.
