President Muhammadu Buhari has met with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Ibrahim Idris, amid rising tensions following the recent killings in Benue State and other parts of the country.

The President held the discussion with the police boss on Friday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

Briefing State House correspondents after the meeting, Mr Idris maintained that the Nigeria Police is working hard to address the issues.

He also attributed the crises to communal misunderstanding in the affected communities and called on Nigerians to learn to live in peace with one another.

In spite of the recent attacks in Benue, Rivers, and Kaduna states, the police boss maintained that the country is secured.

He said: “Obviously I think Nigeria is well secured if you have to be frank with us. Like I said, you know we have various levels of police in this country.”

“I have the Commissioner of Police in Benue, I have the AIG in Benue, and yesterday I deployed my DIG operations there.

“Definitely, from the police angle, I think we are doing all we can to ensure that we maintain law and order in all parts of this country,” he added.

There have been series of killings in parts of the country with Benue being the state that witnessed worst attacks which left at least 33 persons dead.

The attacks had sparked apprehensions in the affected communities with residents seeking refuge in neighbouring communities.

President Muhammadu Buhari had also directed relevant agencies to do everything possible to arrest those behind the “regrettable” attacks.

The President, who was immensely sad at the “wicked and callous” attacks on even innocent children, condoled with Governor Samuel Ortom and the people over the killings and wanton destruction of property.

Saudi Arabia on Friday intercepted a ballistic missile over the Kingdom’s South near the border with Yemen, state media reported, hours after Yemeni rebels said they had launched an attack.

The Huthi rebels, locked in a war against Yemen’s Saudi-backed government, said they had fired a missile at the kingdom’s southwestern province of Najran in a statement tweeted by their Al-Masirah television channel.

Saudi air defences intercepted the ballistic missile over Najran, according to the kingdom’s state-owned Al Ekhbariya news channel.

A spokesman for the Saudi-led military alliance fighting the Huthis in Yemen did not immediately respond to a request for further details.

Saudi Arabia, which has been targeted by multiple rocket attacks in recent weeks, has blamed its regional rival Iran for arming the Shiite Huthis in the Yemen war.

The kingdom denounced the threat of “Iranian-manufactured ballistic weapons” after it intercepted a ballistic missile fired from Yemen over Riyadh in December.
No casualties have been reported in the attacks.

The Saudi-led coalition intervened in support of President Abedrabbo Mansur Hadi’s government in March 2015, after the Huthis took over the capital Sanaa and much of the rest of the country.

But despite the coalition’s superior firepower, the rebels still control the capital and much of the north.

More than 8,750 people have been killed since the coalition intervened, according to the World Health Organization.

Gov. Seriake Dickson

Gov. Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa has authorised the release of N5.6 billion out of its share of N13.5 billion Paris Club Debt refund, to pay one and half months’ salary arrears owed workers in 2016.
The Latest Reality Metro reports that outstanding salary arrears to workers in Bayelsa Civil Service stands at four and half months, while workers in the local government system are owed between 14 and 16 months arrears.
The governor had announced the plan to pay one and half out of the outstanding four and half months’ salary backlog on Thursday.
The announcement was made at a meeting of top government officials, Labour leaders and their representatives, on the Paris Club Fund received in the state in December.
A statement on Friday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Relations, Mr. Fidelis Soriwei, stated that the government received N14.8 billion from the Federal Government.
“The breakdown shows the state received N13.5 billion while the local government councils received N1.37 billion.
“About N5.6 billion of the Fund is being spent to defray the one and a half months salary arrears out of the four and half months owed workers in the state in 2016.
“Gov. Dickson explained further that the outstanding salary arrears were a balance of half salaries he paid during the recession in 2016.
“The governor appreciated the work force for displaying understanding during the biting economic recession of 2016 which affected the resources of the state in an adverse way.
“While most of the older states in the country have lower wage bills, Bayelsa State’s Wage Bill was over N6 billion (State and LGAs) because of the detrimental activities of some fraudulent characters,” the statement reads.
The governor lamented that the state was among those highest wage bill in the country, in spite of its low Internally Generated Revenue base.
He further said that the recurrent burden on the state had become too high as the individual Bayelsa civil servants earned almost twice the income of their counterparts in other states of the federation.
He explained that the government was making sustained efforts to also clean up the payroll to reduce the wage bill.
However, the labour leaders who attended the meeting declined to speak on the offer from the state government.
One of them, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the offer fell below the expectation of workers.
“We were not part of the decision to pay one and half months out of the outstanding four and half months.
“The least we expected was three months; we were merely informed of the decision and were not even allowed to make comments.
“We leave our fate in the hands of God; we are all disappointed because the President had directed that the refunds be channeled to clear outstanding salaries even before Christmas.
“But the state government chose to pay part of the arrears,’’the labour leader said. LR News

Ex-Georgia President, Mikheil Saakashvili

A court in Georgia sentenced on Friday the country’s former president Mikheil Saakashvili to three years in prison in absentia for abusing his power.

Saakashvili, who was president from 2004 to 2013, was found guilty of illegally pardoning four men who were convicted of the high profile murder of Georgian banker Sandro Girgvliani in 2006.

Girgvliani was found dead outside of the capital Tbilisi with multiple injuries after arguing in a bar with high-ranking interior ministry officials.

According to the judge, Saakashvili promised the then chief of Georgia’s Constitutional Security Department to give the men pardons.

Saakashvili, who is now a politician in Ukraine, has called the case politically motivated and questioned the independence of the court.

Gov. Seriake Dickson

Residents of Ndoro community in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa have fled the area following the alleged beheading of a security operative by militants.
A resident of the community, Mr Henshaw Ebi, told the Latest Reality Metro on Friday that the security official was negotiating with a militants’ leader in the area to surrender their arms when the incident occurred.
“The community was thrown into apprehension and people began to flee in droves since Monday when the lifeless body of the ‘security emissary’ was seen in the community without his head.
“The victim cannot be identified because he is in plain cloth.
“The fear is that the military might come after those responsible any moment from now and invade the community.
“The community has been deserted as we speak due to fear of imminent manhunt for the militants behind the dastardly act,’’Ebi said.
However, Bayelsa Government in a reaction to the development said on Friday that there was no cause for alarm.
The government called on fleeing members of the community to return home as the situation had been brought under control.
The Commissioner for information, Mr Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said the assurance came in the wake of a meeting between Gov. Seriake Dickson, security chiefs, officials of the military high command, leaders and stakeholders of the community.
The Commissioner said in a statement that the member representing Sagbama/Ekeremor federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Fred Agbedi also attended the meeting.
Iworiso-Markson said it was resolved that the military would move into the community and restore normalcy, while the government would begin a peace process.
He, therefore, called on the people who had fled to return as their safety was now guaranteed.
He said with the presence of the military in the area they could go about their normal businesses.
The commissioner said the situation was now under control following government’s quick intervention, and expressed regret over its occurrence.
He said Gov. Seriake Dickson had met “with very senior security chiefs and the military high command, as well as leaders and key stakeholders to decide on the steps to take and it was agreed that the military will move in to provide the needed peace”.
“So, we call on all those who have fled the community to return. There is no cause to be scared as government has intervened to ensure that the situation is brought under control,’’ he said. LR News

US President, Donald Trump

The author of a bombshell book about Donald Trump’s White House Friday defended his scathing portrayal of the US president and said “one hundred percent” of those around him questioned his fitness for office.

Michael Wolff, the author of “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House” said he spent three hours with Trump during the presidential campaign and in the White House, rebutting Trump’s claim he never spoke with the writer for the book.

Wolff said his account was drawn from interviews with those in close contact with Trump and all described him in the same terms.

“They all say he is like a child. And what they mean by that is he has a need for immediate gratification. It’s all about him,” Wolff told NBC’s “Today” show.

“Let me put a marker in the sand here. One hundred percent of the people around him” question Trump’s fitness for office, Wolff continued.

“They say he’s a moron, idiot. Actually, there’s a competition to sort of getting to the bottom line here of who this man is. Let’s remember, this man does not read. Does not listen. So he’s like a pinball. Just shooting off the sides.”

Trump’s lawyer is demanding a halt to the publication of the book, which goes on sale Friday, and the president insisted in a tweet he had granted Wolff “Zero access” to the White House and denied he ever spoke to him for the book.

“Full of lies, misrepresentations and sources that don’t exist,” the tweet said.

But Wolff confidently defended himself against attacks on his credibility.

“My credibility is being questioned by a man who has less credibility than, perhaps, anyone who has ever walked on earth at this point,” Wolff said.

Wolff said he spoke with Trump about three hours during the presidential campaign and after he took office nearly a year ago.

“So my window into Donald Trump is pretty significant, but even more to the point… I spoke to people who spoke to the president on a daily, sometimes minute-by-minute basis,” Wolff added, saying he had notes and recordings of the interviews.

“I am certainly absolutely in every way comfortable with everything I’ve reported in this book.”

Two ex-military officers attached to Operation Lafiya Dole in Borno State were on Thursday arrested for alleged armed robbery.

The police command spokesman in Kano State, Magaji Majia said the suspects were nabbed based on an intelligence tip-off and joint effort of SARS operatives from Kano and Katsina were quickly mobilised to ambushed and arrested the two suspects.
“Our SARS operatives in Kano and Katsina State arrested these people wearing complete Nigerian army uniform while trying to cross to the Niger Republic. They were ambushed before crossing Nigeria/Niger border with the brand new unregistered Ford Hilux Navy Blue Colour. The suspects confirmed to us that they were fighting for survival after being dismissed for the Nigerian army,” Majia said.

Although an investigation is still ongoing, the two suspects have confirmed that they were part of the Operation Lafiya Dole in Baga before their eventual dismissal for deserting their duty post.

One of the arrested ex-military men Abubakar Ibrahim is from Kurmi Mashi Quarters of Kaduna state while his friend and accomplice, Jaduwa Thalma is from Askira Uba local government area of Borno state. They were among the 3,000 army officers dismissed in 2016 have been overpowered by Boko Haram insurgents in Baga area of Borno state.

One of the suspects who drove the vehicle denied being an armed robber. He said he has no choice after he was dismissed from the Nigerian Army.

“We are not armed robbers, we were only asked to deliver this vehicle to one Alhaji in Katsina State at the cost of N150, 000 and since I don’t have a job anymore, I will do whatever job comes my way to survive as long as it is not armed robbery,” he said.

The second suspect said they tactically retreat from Baga because Boko Haram fighters have overpowered them, and they do not have the required military equipment to defend themselves.

The ex-military officers claimed that they have not committed any atrocities contrary to the rules and regulations of the Nigerian army but they were simply outnumbered and by Boko Haram fighters and forced to retreat which led to their court marshal and eventual dismissal from service.

The Police in Oyo State has arrested 18 suspected hoodlums for alleged involvement in a bloody cult clashes in some densely populated areas of Ibadan.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Abiodun Odude warned the warring groups that have been unleashing terrors in some parts of the Oyo State capital to desist from such activities and that if otherwise, they will be made to face the full wrath of the law.

Hoodlums numbering over 100 from Foko and Itamaya area of Ibadan had on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 2 and 3 launched an attack they called ‘Operation No Mercy’ against their rival at Oke-Ado in Ibadan.

This attack led to the injury of many unsuspecting victims who were inflicted with broken bottles and machete cuts while others were shot and stabbed with knives.

The Commissioner of Police, who visited Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso I, on the incident which also affected his Popoyemoja palace visited other affected areas including Oke-Ado, Foko, Apena, Gege, Isale Osi, Born Photo, Oopoyeosa, and Popoyemoja.

During the visit, the Police Commissioner warned parents to caution their children against cult related activities and joining bandwagons.

The Olubadan of Ibadan in his reaction prayed for God’s protection for the police in the discharge of their duties.

He said he had received information on the fracas and summoned the family heads (Mogajis) of the affected communities and their environs to an emergency meeting with a view to finding a lasting solution to the incessant mayhem in those areas of the city.

Odude said no one was killed in the attack and that the hoodlums were fond of the incessant attacks.

“The ‘area boys’ tried to be funny with themselves but we thank God, they did not kill anybody, and they did not even kill themselves. We have been on this matter for three days, persistently day and night. The ‘area boys’ would just come out, attack themselves, and withdraw.

“We have come to visit the scenes to truly see what is going on, and see if we can identify the leaders and talk to them, and make sure we keep this town as peaceful as possible.”

He, however, vowed that the police will not give cultists a chance in Ibadan and its environs, adding those caught will be made to face the wrath of the law.

He, therefore, urged residents of the affected areas and Oyo State generally to go about their lawful duties peacefully and appealed to parents to keep close watch of children not to get involved in crimes.

One of the five Badoo cult suspects paraded on Thursday at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja, 18-year-old Chibuzor Igwe, says he was tricked into joining Badoo cult.

Igwe explained that he had approached one of the alleged leaders of the cult, Obamoyegun Omotayo, for a driving job, but was lured into the gang.

Chibuzor said, “I am a Badoo member. Around November, I told Obamoyegun (Omotayo) that I wanted to be his driver because I saw him with new cars. He told me that it would take some time before he would give me the job. During that time, he called me….”

But what could have been a full-blown revelation from the teenager, who has injuries on his hands, was aborted by the state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, who stopped the interview and ordered that Chibuzor and the other suspects be taken away.

Imohimi claimed that the suspects’ confession would jeopardise police investigations and efforts to arrest other members of the gang.

Earlier, while briefing journalists on the arrests, the CP identified other Badoo suspects as Chibuzor’s elder brother, Uche Igwe; a welder, Samuel Akaeze, aka Samito; his wife, Gift Akaeze; and a herbalist, Fatai Adebayo, aka Adaripon.

According to Imohimi, Gift provides information on the targets whom the assailants consequently attack.

He said Chibuzor was apprehended while he wanted to escape from Alabo Street, Abule Osorun, Ibeshe, Ikorodu, where the gang smashed the heads of a couple and their five-month-old baby on December 30, 2017.

Imohimi explained that Chibuzor, Samuel and Omotayo carried out the  attack, adding that by the time a joint team of policemen and a vigilance group responded to a distress call, Samuel and Omotayo had fled.

He said, “The gang of three murderers comprises Chibuzor Igwe, Samuel Akaeze, aka Samito and Obamoyegun Omotayo. Omotayo usually sprays a powdery substance into victims’ dwelling places that would make them to fall into deep sleep before they end their lives by smashing their skulls with grinding stones.

“Omotayo, having satisfied that the victims are dead, will use white handkerchiefs to mop their blood for ritual purposes. However, luck ran out on them when one of the victims raised the alarm which attracted the local vigilance group. The group in turn alerted the police in that area and the compound was cordoned off, leading to the arrest of Chibuzor Igwe at the scene.

“Also arrested is one Gift Akaeze, wife of Samuel, who  provides information about where to strike for the group.”

Imohimi said Chibuzor confessed to being a member of the ritual gang and gave the police information that led to the arrest of Samuel and Omotayo.

He said a bloodstained grinding stone, suspected to have been used by the suspects, had been taken to a laboratory for forensic analysis.

“Recall that during my last press briefing on December 11, 2017, I mentioned that a blue Nokia Asha phone belonging to the murdered pastor of Redeemed Christian Church of God, Ikorodu, Victor Kanayo, who was killed on November 25, 2017, was recovered from Uche Igwe. He confessed that his younger brother, Chibuzor Igwe, gave him the phone.

“The said Chibuzor was the one arrested on Alajo Street, where he and his gang members murdered Shakiru Yekini and inflicted grievous bodily harm on his wife and six-month-old baby,” he added.

The CP stated further that Chibuzor told the police that Omotayo usually took them to Adebayo, the herbalist, in Imosan-Ijebu, Ogun State, where he (Adebayo) administered oaths on them in his shrine before they went on operations.

He said the herbalist also fortified them with charms and blessed the grinding stones with which they smashed people’s skulls.

Imohimi said the command would not relent until all members of the gang were rounded up, adding that the suspected kingpin, Alhaji Abayomi Alaka, remained wanted by the police.

He said, “I am aware that some sections of the press have opened communication with him. In his own interest, he should report at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, to answer the charges against him. He will have his day in court.

“I don’t place bounties on criminals. I have asked him to report. He has been declared wanted. If he believes he is innocent, wherever he is, he should report to the police. They will bring him to the right place to answer the charges against him. The police in Nigeria are one.”

Alaka, in a telephone interview on Wednesday, had said he was ready to submit himself to the police for investigation.

He, however, insisted that he would not go to the Lagos State Police Command, alleging that investigations under Imohimi’s supervision would be compromised.

Our correspondent, who visited Alaka’s residence on PSSDC Road, Magodo GRA Phase II, on Thursday, saw four men at the frontage, chatting.

When asked about his whereabouts, his security guard said he had travelled out of Lagos.

The guard, Usman Zibo, said, “He travelled this morning (Thursday). A wanted notice was pasted at the entrance gate of the Magodo GRA Phase II, but nothing was pasted here. No policeman has come to ask for him from me.”

It’s no news that people cheat in relationships, an incident that has accounted for the break-up of many marriages. Meanwhile, there are always different excuses people give when caught cheating in a relationship, with the hope that their partners will be convinced enough to forgive them.

Latest Reality, therefore, asked some Nigerians whether a relationship could go back to normal if one of the partners cheated

Trust would be lost
Bolaji Oluseyi
I don’t think the relationship can remain the same again. Once a partner cheats, there will be distrust. For instance, if my partner cheated, I would not be able to trust her totally again even if I still loved her. If I travelled somewhere alone, I might start imagining what she might be doing while I’m not around. Infidelity is a serious issue. The best thing to do to keep a relationship glowing is to be faithful to each other.

 It can’t be normal again
Ojo Bukky
I don’t believe that kind of relationship can be back to normal. If there was an act of infidelity in a marriage, distrust would be created immediately, making it impossible to trust each other fully again. That’s why it’s always better to be disciplined as a couple. Whatever you are looking for outside is right beside you.
No, it’s like scar on the heart
Amadi Glory
From my point of view, the relationship can’t be normal again. This is because distrust will be created. Sure, they might not separate due to the infidelity, but deep down in their hearts, they would know things are not normal again. I am sure the one who was cheated on would always remember the incident. It’s like a scar on the heart.
Deep love would be gone
Iyiola Lowo
It only takes God’s grace for the relationship to work again. First, the cheating partner would not always feel comfortable afterwards, while the partner cheated upon would not find it easy to love deeply again. That’s why I said it is only by God’s grace that the couple can sustain their relationship.
It’d be hard to restore the relationship
Amax Sarah
It will be hard for such a relationship to be fully restored. Infidelity is hurtful than one could imagine. Let me also say that the maturity of the partner who was cheated on also matters. But even at that, the only thing a mature person would probably do is that they would not separate or file for divorce. They would feel disturbed in their heart anytime they remember the incident.
Love, trust would be absent afterwards
Don Roberts
If one of the partners cheated, my take is that the partner cheated upon would find it very difficult to find love again in their spouse. Apart from love that would be gone, trust would also go. So, what’s left when love and trust are absent in a relationship? Nothing. To me, the relationship is dead.
There’d be hatred in the long run
Stella Akpan
Thinking about the act of infidelity can create hypertension. So, the best thing is to forget about the issue or go for the alternative. That’s why it’s advisable to leave a relationship or partner one can’t cope with again due to an act of infidelity. Let’s be sincere, the relationship can never be normal again. Even if you were a pastor or imam, you’d always think about the incident once in a while, which might fuel hatred in the relationship.
Discipline is key in marriage
Layo Olukokun
I always say that apart from love, discipline is very important in marriage. After wedding, many temptations would arise and if any of the partners falls into one, it would create problems for the marriage. It can result to the crash of the marriage, no matter how long it’s been built. In essence, that relationship can’t be fully restored again.
The relationship can’t remain same again
Igarando Sweeny
Undoubtedly, the partner who was cheated on would not forget about the incident even if they forgave their cheating spouse. We have heard of cases of infidelity resulting to murder of the cheating spouse.
Things can still work out
Sanusi Ganiu
Depending on the maturity of the partner who was cheated upon, I believe the relationship could still work again. Of course, it might not be easy to get it back on track soon, but in the long run, if there is forgiveness, a broken heart can still be restored.

Minister Of State For Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu & GMD NNPC Maikanti BARU

The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Maikanti Baru said 4501 petrol trucks were simply untraceable, vanishing from the Nigerian radar, during the biting fuel supply crisis.
“Due to massive diversion, hoarding, panic buying and smuggling, coupled with the information that three Direct Sales Direct Purchase Consortia had rejected October cargoes, there was insinuation of a supply gap,” he said  Thursday at an investigative public hearing by a Joint Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Petroleum Downstream, at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
Baru disclosed that during the period,  NNPC could not track the movement of 4,501 trucks representing the quantity of the disappeared products.
According to him, the nation lost about 148,533,000 million litres of fuel to the suspected diversion during the December fuel crisis.
The NNPC GMD listed some of the key factors which were responsible for the crisis to include insufficient reserve, clearance speed, supply gap, diversion, hoarding, panic buying and smuggling.
He noted that prior to the crises, NNPC had 1.9 billion litres strategic reserve of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), which would have lasted for 53 days but that due to panic buying, diversion and hoarding, the Corporation was unable to cope with the daily nation consumption of 37 million litres of PMS, which led to the presence of long queues at petrol stations across the country.
He however said that NNPC took some urgent steps to resolve the scarcity which included but not limited to the immediate activation of war room, additional imports to increase days sufficiency, 24-hour operations in all NNPC Depots and mega stations; sustained media and stakeholders engagements; increased monitoring, surveillance and sanctions as well as production at Kaduna and Port Harcourt refineries put at 3 million daily.
Baru also used the opportunity to call on the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) to review the pricing template and landing cost.
He also asked the National Assembly to approve outstanding subsidy payments and debts to marketers.
