The president of the Nigerian Senate, Bukola Saraki, reportedly acknowledged the retiring inspector-general of police, Ibrahim Idris at the Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

This is contrary to the report from Vanguard that at the venue, Saraki refused to accept handshake extended to him by Idris at the event held at the National Archade, Abuja. There has been an ongoing rift between Idris and Saraki.

Vanguard reports that the venue, Saraki refused to accept handshake extended to him by Idris at the event held at the National Archade, Abuja.

The report claimed Idris, who was standing near a podium, had saluted the Saraki ahead of a handshake as has been the practice, but Saraki refused to walk towards Idris to accept the handshake from him.

He, instead, steadily looked at Idris and walked away to shake the service chiefs who were standing together with the IGP.
However, pictorial evidence suggests that the report is false as Nigerians shared pictures of the former police chief and the Senate president shaking hands.
The official twitter handle of the Nigerian Senate also shared picture of Idris and Saraki shaking hands.
Legit.ng earlier reported that two groups recently urged President Muhammadu Buhari to extend the tenure of Ibrahim Idris, who has reportedly reached the retirement age of 60.

The groups, Tiv Youth Council, and Arewa Youth Assembly on Thursday, January, 10, warned that removing the police boss as the general elections approach could pose security risks to the coming polls.

However, reports late Monday, January 14, said the federal government was set to announce a replacement for Ibrahim Idris. The proposed new police boss has been identified as Abubakar Adamu Mohammed.

Facebook Inc will invest $300 million over three years in local news globally as it faces blistering criticism over its role in the erosion of the news business worldwide.
The investment in time and money is a significant expansion of a plan to help newsrooms in the U.S. and abroad create and sustain viable business models to survive, the company said on Tuesday.

Unlike earlier investments in the news business, this latest round is distinguished by how it is not tied to Facebook-related products, recipients of the investments say.

Earlier rounds of investments in the news business were designed to encourage publishers to rely on delivering its products over Facebook, which eventually hurt many news organizations when Facebook's strategies shifted.

"We're going to continue fighting fake news, misinformation, and low quality news on Facebook," Campbell Brown, Facebook's vice president of Global News Partnerships said in a statement. "But we also have an opportunity, and a responsibility, to help local news organizations grow and thrive."

Critics have slammed Facebook for its role in providing a platform for hate speech, misinformation and political meddling.

Media Mogul, Dele Momodu has reacted to the recent appointment of AIG Adamu Mohammed as the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP)

The presidency will on Tuesday announce the appointment of AIG Adamu Mohammed as the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), to replace outgoing IGP, Ibrahim Idris, an impeccable source told DAILY POST Monday night.

Also a presidency source had earlier confirmed to NAN that President Muhammadu Buhari had zeroed in on the senior officer.

His elevation means that all Deputy Inspectors-General will retire from service.

Mohammed had served as the Commissioner Of Police in Enugu State. He was one time director of peacekeeping operations of the Force.

He is currently the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone Five, in Benin, Edo State.

Mohammed is also a directing staff member at the National Institute of policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, near Jos, Plateau State.

He was born on November 9, 1961 and enlisted in the police in 1986.

Reacting, Momodu expressed surprise at the development despite ‘moves’ by Idris to stop his retirement.

On his Twitter page, he wrote: “AIG Adamu Lafia from Nasarawa State has emerged as the new IGP.

“Wow, whatever has a beginning must have an end. So, after all the ‘gra gra’ of our troublesome Inspector General of Police, and the over zealousness to please his masters instead of his country, retirement eventually came. Goodbye Mr Ibrahim Idris.”

The presidency has shortlisted an Assistant Inspector General of Police from Nasarawa State as a possible replacement of the retiring Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Idris, who clocks 60 years on Jan. 15, paid “a bye-bye visit’’ to President Buhari on Monday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

NAN reports that the outcome of the closed-door meeting between President Buhari and the IGP was not disclosed as at the time of filing this report.

According to reports, Idris is expected to retire from service on attainment of the mandatory 35 years in service or 60 years of age.

A source close to the presidency, who preferred not to be named, confirmed to NAN that a replacement to the retiring IGP would be named on Tuesday, among the shortlisted candidates.

One of the persons said to be on the shortlist is AIG Adamu Mohammed. If he gets the nod, it means the DIGs may be required to retire.

“Yes, the IGP Ibrahim Idris is retiring tomorrow and possibly an acting Inspector-General maybe named very soon.

“But I will advise that you wait for official statement to that effect,’’ the source maintained.

An Indian has stunned the world with an unusual feat: pulling a car with his genitalia.
A trending AFP photo shows an Indian sadhu (holy man) of Juna Akhada, pulling the car with his genitalia, to demonstrate the power of yoga.
The spectacle was recorded as the man participated in a religion procession towards Sangam area, during the first ‘royal entry’ for the Magh Mela in Allahabad on December 25, 2018.
A similar feat was recorded during the same festival last year when a man, known famously as ‘Penis Baba’, pulled a heavy tractor with his genitalia.
