Bungudu local government APC chairman, Alhaji Hamisu Coordinator escaped being kidnapped on Sunday as gunmen stormed Nahuche village and abducted seven people including a former councilor, Bello Daniya.
The Zamfara police Command said armed bandits abducted seven people from Nahuche village of Bungudu Local Government.
An eye witness, Malam Sani Ibrahim, had earlier told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the bandits besieged the village in large numbers, fired guns into the air and ordered the villagers to show them the house of Bungudu LG chairman who is a member of the APC.
He said that the abductors, however, found themselves in the former councillor’s house, who is a neighbour to the APC chairman, where they took him, four boys and two girls.
Ibrahim said the abductors later released one of the victims with a note demanding N100 million as ransom to  release the remaining victims.
While confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Mohammed Shehu said a combined team of security operatives were on the trail of the abductors.
He appealed to members of the public with useful information on the movement of criminals to report to relevant security agencies for prompt action.

APC spokesman Yekini Nabena

The All Progressives Congress(APC) has described as baseless, the call by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that its candidate be declared the winner of the inconclusive Osun governorship election.
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said that the party’s candidate, Sen. Ademola Adeleke, should be immediately declared winner of the election.
Mr Yekini Nabena, the APC National Publicity Secretary said the APC rejected the PDP demand.
“We hereby reject the PDP’s baseless calls that the inconclusive Osun governorship election is announced in its favour,”he said.
Nabena, however, called on Osun electorate, party supporters and members to remain upbeat and focused on the task of consolidating on the APC change administration in the state in the lead up to the re-run election.
This, he said, they should do by voting for the victory of Gboyega Oyetola, the APC governorship candidate.
He applauded Osun electorate, the INEC, security agencies and relevant stakeholders over the conduct of the election, noting that the election was largely peaceful inspite of some reported irregularities.
The APC spokesman said the party would continue to improve on its electoral processes, particularly correcting some irregularities witnessed in the election.
He commended President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration for continuously exhibiting its commitment to ensure that elections were more peaceful, transparent, credible and acceptable.
This, he added, was a departure from the situation under past PDP administrations where the people’s will was subverted and elections were often manipulated.
PDP had at a news conference in Abuja on Sunday, rejected the declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission that the governorship election was inconclusive.
Prof. Joseph Fuwape, the Returning Officer for the Sept. 22 election made the declaration in Osogbo.
Fuwape, who is the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), while announcing the results of the election, said that Sen. Ademola Adeleke, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 254,698 votes.
He said Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), scored 254, 345 votes.
He said the election was declared inconclusive because of cases of ballot boxes snatching that occurred in some polling units during the election.
The returning officer mentioned the affected polling units to include Ife North, (one polling unit), Ife south, (two polling units), Orolu,( three polling units) and Osogbo, one polling unit.
He said a total of 3498 votes were cancelled in the seven affected polling units
INEC has fixed Sept. 27 for the re-run election.

In spite of mounting opposition to his second term bid ticket, Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode’s kinsmen and women have resolved to take the battle to God in prayers.
An indication to this effect came from Mr Adeyemi Ikuforiji, a former Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, as he urged Epe indigenes to pray for Ambode’s successful clinching of the All Progressives Congress’ ticket at the governorship direct primary scheduled for Sept. 29.
Ikuforiji made the appeal at the grand finale of Kayokayo festival in Epe on Saturday night.
Epe is home to Ambode and the late Gov. Michael Otedola.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state’s Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision making body of APC in Lagos, met on Saturday night where it resolved that the chapter must hold its primary to determine its governorship candidate.
The decision may have put paid to hopes that the party would clear the coast for Ambode’s  bid by asking his challengers to step down for him.
Among his challengers are Mr Jide Sanwo-Olu, a former Commissioner for Training and Establishment, believed to have been backed by Chief Bola Tinubu, APC National Leader and ex-governor, and Dr Obafemi Hamzat, also a former Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure.
A source close to the 22-member GAC meeting held at Tinubu’s Ikoyi residence told NAN that the party insisted that Ambode must go through the primary with others.
“We met and deliberated extensively on the governor’s second term bid and our forthcoming primary.
“After the deliberations, we resolved that the party should hold the primary to pick its candidate because that is just the right thing to do.
“We are a democratic party that believes so much in internal democracy, so we think we should allow everyone to sell themselves to members who will eventually determine their choices,” the source who attended the meeting said.
Among those who attended the meeting are Sen. Anthony Adefuye, Alhaji Tajudeen Olusi and former Speaker, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, and Chief Abayomi Finnih, who is scheduled to address the press on Monday on the outcome.
Ikuforiji, however, urged the people to be calm and support the governor in prayers for him to be successful in the re-election bid.
He said prayer became necessary because of the “speculations” that Mr Jide Sanwo-Olu has been tipped to succeed Ambode as the next governor on APC platform in 2019 election.
Also addressing the gathering, Mr Adedoyin Adesanya, the Chairman, Epe Local Government, stressed the need for peaceful coexistence and be focused.
He said the people of Epe should live in peace and harmony for the progress of the community.
Earlier, Mr Alade Saliu-Okulu, the Chairman, Organising Committee, thanked sponsors and attendees, noting that this year’s festival was better than the previous editions.
He advised the winner of a brand new car at the festival to make a good use it and support the staging of other editions.
The activities marking the Epe Kayokayo festival which started on Sept. 14 were rounded off at mid-night of Sept. 22 with several artistes on the bandstand.

Gov. Muhammad Badaru of Jigawa has pledged to pay the new minimum wage that is agreed upon by the tripartite committee constituted by the Federal Government.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Jigawa chapter, Malam Usman Ya’u made the disclosure in Dutse on Sunday.
Ya’u said that in spite of the impasse in the committee’s meeting that led to the national leadership of the NLC giving a 14-day ultimatum which started on Sept. 12, to the tripartite committee to finish its assignment and announce a new minimum wage.
“I am, however, glad to assure the workers in Jigawa that the state government, led by Gov. Muhammadu Badaru, has expressed readiness to pay whatever is agreed upon by the committee,’’ he said.
The chairman said that labour was not happy with the delay on the issue of new minimum wage, particularly since the tripartite committee was set up in 2017 and held the public hearings in the six geo-political zones.
Ya’u said that in view of the ultimatum by labour to government, Jigawa Council of NLC will on Sept. 24 hold its executive council meeting to deliberate on the directives from the National Secretariat and other issues affecting workers.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed September 27 for the Osun governorship election run-off.

The date was fixed shortly after the Returning Officer for the election, Professor Joseph Afuape, declared the poll inconclusive.

Peoples Democratic Party candidate Ademola Adeleke and his All Progressives Congress opponent had opened up a major lead on the 46 other candidates that participated in the poll.

As more results trickled it became apparent that both men would take the race to the wire.

Although Adeleke polled 254,698 votes, 353 more votes than Oyetola got, the number of voters meant a runoff would be needed before either one of them can be return elected.

On September 27, it will be up to the 3,498 voters spread across seven polling units to decide who will succeed Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the Osun State governorship election inconclusive.

The reason for the cancellation, according to the electoral body, is because the number of cancelled votes is higher than the margin between the two top candidates.

Peoples Democratic Party candidate Ademola Adeleke led the race with 254,698 votes, 353 votes more than his closest rival, Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress.

The margin was, however, less than the 3,498 votes in the polling units where voting was cancelled.

Consequently, the Returning Officer for the election, Professor Joseph Afuape, declared the poll inconclusive.

“Unfortunately, as the Returning Officer, it is not possible to declare any party as the clear winner of this election at the first ballot,”

“The Independent National Electoral Commission will announce a date when another ballot will take place. I hereby declare the result inconclusive.” LR News
