A man whose account was totally wiped out by thieves who stole his mobile phone has warned all Nigerians to be careful so they won’t fall into the same situation.

The man who gave his name as Etuky Abasiono on Instagram said he discovered that his phone was no longer with him after he alighted from a bus at Ojuelegba on his way to Costain last week. He had boarded the bus from Onipanu.

Abasiono said he was hoping that the phone would be returned since it was still ringing while he was calling it. He said the worst mistake he made was not blocking the phone immediately, the post whose screenshot was posted on Instablog9ja revealed.

Eventually, he said by the time he got to the ATM to check his account all his money was gone. He cried!

Explaining how the fraud was committed, one commentator on the post, @Hausa_geh said the thieves probably used the USSD code of the victim’s bank to initiate a money transfer from the phone. As a means of validation, the Bank Verification Number of the individual would be required, but the fraudsters beat that by using another USSD code *556*0# to retrieve that and so they were able to empty the victims account.

Two men suspected to be students of higher institutions in Kwara State were among some armed robbery suspects paraded before newsmen on Wednesday at the Katsina State Police Command headquarters.

Their arrest came on the heels of the deployment of five units of mobile policemen and unspecified number of regular policemen from neighbouring states to assist Katsina State in combating crimes.

The two students are Abdulrosheed Ibrahim, 20, who claimed to be a 300 level student of Kwara State College of Education, Lafiagi; and one Opeyemi Agboola, 19, who claimed to be an ND II Marketing student of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.

Police said the duo belonged in a four-member robbery gang recently arrested at Bakori, headquarters of Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The alleged arrowhead of the gang, one Ahmed, was said to be on the run while police said they were on his trail.

Both Ibrahim and Agboola said it was Ahmed who brought them to Katsina State on July 29, under the pretext that he was going to introduce them to ram business.

Ibrahim told newsmen he had taken part in a robbery operation, while Agboola said police came to arrest him at a tea joint where he was waiting for Ibrahim and other members of the gang who allegedly went for the operation.

Agboola told newsmen, “I did not partake in the operation. I was waiting for Ibrahim and others at a tea joint as the two Okada (commercial motorcycle) used could not carry me along with them.

“The police came to pick me where I was waiting at the tea joint after Ibrahim and others had been arrested.”

Spokesman for the Katsina Police Command, DSP Gambo Isah, confirmed the development, adding that investigation was still going on.

The Lagos State Government on Wednesday announced the restriction of the operation of inter-state buses and vehicles operating along Ikorodu Road from going beyond Ojodu Berger and Ojota Motor Parks.

The State Government has also issued a seven-day ultimatum to the operators to relocate to the designated inter-state motor parks at Ojodu Berger and Ojota, after which stiff sanctions would apply to defaulters.

Speaking after embarking on a joint inspection tour of ongoing construction of Modern Bus Terminal at Yaba and the beautification project at Jibowu, the State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Steve Ayorinde, said the decision of the government was in line with the determination of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s administration to free the city of avoidable nuisances and install sanity and civility in the environment.

He said the inspection was a follow-up to an earlier visit by the Governor to the area, adding that all the necessary quit notices have already been served on the affected operators.

He said: “This is a follow-up on the visit of Governor Ambode to this axis last night and was very displeased with what he saw particularly in the manner with which long buses, inter-state buses are using the main town and what we have done so far is the initial announcement to say that henceforth, we will no longer allow inter-state buses to be along Ikorodu Road.

“Henceforth, they will have to go to Ojota and Ojodu Berger which are the two designated inter-state motor parks. The ones that we have here in Jibowu will have to move and there is a 7-day ultimatum for everyone of them beginning from the ones in this axis to move,” Ayorinde said.

Speaking on the reason for the ban, the Commissioner said activities of the operators had not been tidy and decent despite repeated warnings, and that government could no longer sit and watch such to continue in the overall interest of the people.
