A man whose account was totally wiped out by thieves who stole his mobile phone has warned all Nigerians to be careful so they won’t fall into the same situation.
The man who gave his name as Etuky Abasiono on Instagram said he discovered that his phone was no longer with him after he alighted from a bus at Ojuelegba on his way to Costain last week. He had boarded the bus from Onipanu.
Abasiono said he was hoping that the phone would be returned since it was still ringing while he was calling it. He said the worst mistake he made was not blocking the phone immediately, the post whose screenshot was posted on Instablog9ja revealed.
Eventually, he said by the time he got to the ATM to check his account all his money was gone. He cried!
Explaining how the fraud was committed, one commentator on the post, @Hausa_geh said the thieves probably used the USSD code of the victim’s bank to initiate a money transfer from the phone. As a means of validation, the Bank Verification Number of the individual would be required, but the fraudsters beat that by using another USSD code *556*0# to retrieve that and so they were able to empty the victims account.
