The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Nigeria on Tuesday reminded Nigerians that it was no longer in the business of issuing them visas.

The Embassy’s Charge d’ Affaires, Michel Deleen, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that the Embassy had since 2013 swapped its visa issuance processes in Nigeria.

Deleen said the Embassy had since 2013 swapped its visas issuance to Nigerians with the French Consulate General in Lagos and the Embassy of Belgium in Abuja.

He said: “Let me remind Nigerians that since 2013, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Nigeria had signed agreements with the French Consulate-General in Lagos and the Embassy of Belgium in Abuja.

“What this means is that we have swapped our visa application processes in Nigeria with the French Consulate-General in Lagos and the Embassy of Belgium in Abuja.

“Let me remind Nigerians that under these agreements, any Nigerian that wants to visit the Netherlands for business, study or tourism should always process their visa applications through the French Consulate-General in Lagos and the Embassy of Belgium in Abuja.”

Deleen also enjoined Nigerians to always apply for visas to the Netherlands through VFS Global to the French Consulate-General in Lagos and the Embassy of Belgium in Abuja.

The Charge d’ Affaires said it was important for Nigerians and other nationals in Nigeria to know that VFS Global was the internationally-authorised organisaton for receiving all visa applications.

He said: “Let me also advise anyone seeking visas to the Netherlands through the French Consulate-General in Lagos and the Embassy of Belgium in Abuja to always first apply through VFS Global.

“When you first apply to VFS Global for visas to the Netherlands, VFS Global would thereafter send them to the French Consulate-General in Lagos and the Embassy of Belgium in Abuja for processing.”

VFS Global is the world’s largest outsourcing and technology services specialist for governments and diplomatic missions worldwide

The company manages administrative and non-judgmental tasks related to visas, passports, identity management and other citizen services for its client governments.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board on Tuesday released the cut-off marks for this year’s admission into the country’s universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.

So also did JAMB release detains for change of course and institutions.
The details were released by JAMB in collaboration with Vice Chancellors, Rectors and Provosts of higher institutions in the country.

The body and the heads of higher institutions in the country took the decision at a combined policy meeting on admissions into universities, polytechnics and other higher institutions in Nigeria in Abuja on Tuesday.

For the cut-off mark, a minimum of 120 marks was adopted for universities and 100 for admission into polytechnics.

They agreed that admission into first choice universities should close on October 15, while December 15, 2017 was set as the closing date for second choice admission by institutions.

The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, said universities, with the decision, are not to go below the minimum 120 cut-off points adopted by the meeting for admissions.

Oloyede called for the adoption of flexible cut-off marks for admission processes by higher institutions in the country.

He said: “What JAMB has done is to recommend.
“We will only determine the minimum.
“Whatever you determine as your admission cut-off mark is your decision.

“The Senate and academic boards of universities should be allowed determine their cut-off marks.”

The Registrar said the board discovered over 17,160 illegally admitted students by higher institutions, adding that the body has regularized some of them.
Oloyede said: “Thirty per cent of those in higher institutions do not take JAMB or have less than the cut-off marks.

“The admission process is now automated with direct involvement of the registrar of JAMB for final approval.
“We have agreed to regularize admissions that were done under the table this year.
“From next year we will not accept any things like that.”

WIKE AND FAYOSE

CHAIRMAN of the panel on the Anambra State Ward Congress, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and his counterpart from Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, said yesterday, in Awka that unlike what was happening in the past, Anambra politicians would never buy members of their committee.

Addressing the governorship aspirants and their supporters, who turned out in large numbers to find out modalities for yesterday’s ward congress of the party, the two governors reminded politicians in the state that it was only by working together and putting aside their differences that PDP could take over the government in Anambra State.

Wike said: “We must work together and put our differences aside and make sure that PDP comes back and takes over Anambra State. And whether you like or not, power comes from God.
You can take the ticket and you may not be able to win the election. All of you know that some of us passed through this exercise, but God said we are going to be there and we are there.

“Not because we are stronger; not because we have  money, but because God said at His appointed time, you are the one to be there.
It is only agents of other political parties that would want to cause trouble, but if you are a true believer of PDP, you know that we have to work as a family. “I want to say that nobody can buy this committee.

We have told the aspirants that if any of their supporters makes trouble, the person will be disqualified. And with two of us, the chairman of the PDP Governors Forum and with me as chairman of this panel, no money can change our decision. “That is why I said, let us respect ourselves by doing the right thing.

We are going to do a transparent election. If you are popular, go to your ward. You cannot be popular at the party secretariat here. Nobody can hijack the election and that is why we advise everybody to go to his ward and participate in the election. “I can tell you that if you like to hijack anything, before you hijack, we have cancelled it. Nobody can meet us in any hotel and beg that we should accept their result; everything must be done at the party secretariat.

On his part, Fayose appealed to PDP members to have the interest of the party in mind in whatever they do, adding that it was not good for any aspirant to be linked to violence (because some are already saying it now that if it does not work in their way, they will scatter the election).

He said: “APGA has done their own and I watched it on the television. I know APC will still do their own and whether na kolo kolo or kulu kulu, they will still do it and in their style of the more you look, the less you see.

But this PDP election should start with orderliness. “Our position is that if you are linked to violence, you are disqualified, not only in that ward, but in the whole process, you are gone.”

Katsina, Federal University

Nine students and three members of staff have been dismissed by the Federal University, Dutsinma in Katsina State for their involvement in examination malpractice.

The student and the staffs were caught engaging in the malpractice during the semester examinations.

Prof. Armuyau Bichi, the Acting Vice Chancellor, disclosed this to journalists on Monday in Dutsinma town in Katsina State.

Bichi said: “The university anti-malpractice committee investigated the case properly before taking the decision to dismiss them.

“The committee also investigated the role played by the staff and they were found wanting and the management of the university dismissed them.

“The university relied heavily on the evidence found against the students and the staff before they were dismissed.”

Bicihi disclosed that the university had given the students, academic and non academic staff the right to report any wrongdoing to the SERVICOM office within the university campus.

He said: “We have empowered the office in the university with the aim of protecting both the student and the staff from harassment by the authority.

“We have established cordial working relations with the academics, non-academics and student so as to achieve the desired goal.”

The Vice Chancellor commended the Katsina State Government for investing heavily in the provision of infrastructure in the university.

He however assured that the school would continue to promote the interest of both students and staff, especially in welfare related issues.

Bichi also said the university has reinstated 300 academic and non-academic staff allegedly sacked by the institution’s former vice chancellor, Prof. Haruna Kaita.

Bichi said the staff were dismissed without due approval of the university’s council.

He said on assumption of office, he discovered that the staff were illegally disengaged, and that the affected workers were recalled after thorough investigation.
The vice chancellor said the recalled staff had been paid all their entitlements.

He said the current university administration would on October 1 promote its workforce across board, adding that it would be the first of its kind since the inception of the institution five years ago.

Bichi also said there were plans to lease the multi-billion naira Shongai farm of the state government to the institution to conduct researches in agriculture.

He said government had indicated interest to lease the farm to the school.
He, however, said the school was facing financial challenge but effort was being made to generate revenue internally.

Wayne Rooney

Wayne Rooney has achieved another milestone by scoring his 200th Premier League goal.

The 31-year-old Everton striker reached the feat at the home of Manchester City when he netted in the first half of the league contest on Monday evening.

The England international has become only the second footballer to rack up that many goals in England’s top flight, joining Newcastle United legend, Alan Shearer.

The retired player, who now works as a BBC pundit, found the back of the net 260 times in 441 matches, while Rooney has reached the 200-mark in 462 league outings.

Shearer was quick to tweet his congratulations to the Everton striker, writing: “It’s been lonely in this @premierleague 200 club. Welcome and congratulations @WayneRooney.”

The forward has now scored in both domestic fixtures this season since returning to his boyhood club Everton from Manchester United earlier this summer.

Rooney won 12 trophies during his 13-year spell at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Raheem Sterling scored an 82nd-minute equaliser as Manchester City came from behind to secure a point in a 1-1 draw with Everton at the Etihad Stadium.
