The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has stated that the truck out of 1,300 truckloads of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol from its depots daily, has helped to clear the current fuel scarcity witnessed across the country.

Dr Umaru Ajiya, Managing Director, Petroleum Products Marking Company (PPMC) disclosed this to Newsmen, on Wednesday while monitoring various filling stations in Abuja.

The Filling stations visited were Oando PLC Mabushi, Total filling station in Wuse Zone 3, Conoil PLC in the Central Business District and AYM Shafa in Apo district.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there were minimal queues in some of the stations while some had normal sales to customers.

“As you can see in all the stations we went, they have products and there are no longer queues in the stations.

“Essentially, this is the product of a lot of hardwork and effort between ourselves and sister agencies, Department of Petroleum  Resources (DPR), Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) and the security agencies by rising up to the challenge.

“We have moved our operations to 24 hours in all our depots; we have moved ourselves to all our affiliate stations for 24 hours. Similarly, our majors have done so in Abuja to complement our effort.

“In addition to that, we have massively increased our truck out, we cover 1,300 trucks a day as you can see them arriving in several stations,’’ he said.

He noted that with the collaboration of the DPR, PPPRA and security agencies, surveillance and monitoring had been beefed up adding that the NNPC had directed that any depot or filling station found hoarding product should be sold to Nigerians free of charge.

He further debunked the allegation of the planned increase of pump price by NNPC  and reassured Nigerians that there was adequate products in the country

“Nigerians should calm down, they do not need to rush to buy products and hoard; it is also unsafe to keep such products in their houses.

“We have a robust supply plan, every blessed day, we have a minimum of one ship arriving Nigeria, today, we receive two ships, tomorrow we have a ship, the day after  tomorrow, we have two ships, that’s the trajectory going forwards until the end of the year.

“One ship has an average of 50 million liters and the average consumption in Nigeria is about 35 million liters,’’ he added
Also, Dr Victor Adeniran Chief Operating Officer, NNPC ventures reiterated that the collective effort of the various agencies and the security agencies contributed to the positive result witnessed in the country.

“We made that promise, and as you can see, we have delivered. In addition to that, as the MD PPMC just said, we have a robust plan to take us to the end of the year. And that is what we have been working on.

“Our hands are still on deck and we are looking at everything as it comes every day, so that the situation like this can continue in Lagos, Abuja and all over the country,’’ he said .
On tackling the black marketers roaming the streets, he said that the men of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps had been arresting some of them anywhere they see them.

“That is plan that we have put in place. For me, what is important is when you have the products everywhere, they would disappear,’’ he added.

He assured that the goal of the corporation was to ensure that products were available to Nigerians always.

“That is our goal and that is what we are working towards,’’ he added.

Earlier, at Total Filling Station in Wuse Zone Mr Patrick Okogu, a Dealer said that the station had product and there was a 40,000 liters on standby to discharge.

He said that once the truck finished discharging, there would commence sales.

Also, at AYM Ashafa in Apo, the station Manager, Mr Abdullahi  Sanni  said there had over 300,000 liters of fuel in their tanks which would meet the demands of consumers for three days .

He said the station also had some trucks on standby waiting to discharge the product.
Sanni noted that the queues witnessed in its station since Monday, had disappeared, as supply had improved to its stations. (NAN)

Muslims nations grouped under Organisation of Islamic Cooperation(OIC) have declared East Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Palestine, while at the same time stripping America’s leader Donald Trump the role of a peacemaker in the region.
In a draft declaration prepared for the summit of the Muslim leaders in Istanbul, Turkey on Wednesday, the leaders said they considered Washington’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel as a sign of U.S. withdrawal from its role as a sponsor of Middle East peace.
The draft statement said leaders, ministers and officials from more than 50 Muslim countries “declare East Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Palestine, and invite all countries to recognize the State of Palestine and East Jerusalem as its occupied capital.”
A copy of the draft declaration, tweeted by Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, said the meeting rejected and condemned the U.S. move “in the strongest terms”.
It described the U.S. decision as “a deliberate undermining of all peace efforts, an impetus (for) extremism and terrorism, and a threat to international peace and security”.
Wednesday’s summit was hosted by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan who has bitterly criticized the United States, a NATO ally, for its stance on Jerusalem.
The city, revered by Jews, Christians and Muslims alike, is home to Islam’s third holiest site and has been at the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict for decades. Israel captured Arab East Jerusalem in 1967 and later annexed it in an action not recognised internationally.

No fewer than 20 vehicles and four commercial motorcycles were on Wednesday afternoon burnt when a tanker laden with petrol fell and spilled its content on the Festac Link Bridge in Awuwo Odofin LGA of Lagos State.
The fire started at noon and raged for about an hour.
Fire fighters arrived at the scene about 30 minutes later but did not have enough water to quench the fire.
A witness, Mr Olufemi Popoola, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the tanker, coming from Apple Junction and going to FESTAC Town was ascending the bridge but suddenly rolled back and fell.
The impact of the fall separated the tank from the body, resulting in an explosion, according to Popoola.
He said that some residents and passers-by attacked the fire with buckets of water to no avail.
Popoola , who lives in FESTAC, said that the fire from the tanker spilled over to nearby vehicles , forcing their occupants to run, abandoning them.
“The fire then spilled into a car shop on the foot of the bridge, burning some of the cars, while the attendants quickly drove out some.
“Furniture items, bags and boxes displayed for sale on the foot of the bridge all burnt,’’ he told NAN.
The vehicles burnt included a 2010 Toyota Highlander and a commercial bus.
The fire caused gridlock on the bridge and in the adjoining roads.
A crowd of affected persons and sympathisers gathered at the scene to lament the situation.
One of the owners of the burnt motorcycles, Mr Akuko Okoli, said that he narrowly escaped death.
It was not clear at the time of the report whether any life was lost to the fire.

A 28-year-old trader, Kemi Shopade, who allegedly assaulted two Ikeja Electric workers that wanted to disconnect her electricity wire, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
Shopade, resident of Alaguntan, Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy and assault.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Awase, said that the accused committed the offences on Nov. 24, at her residence.
Awase said that the accused and two others, who had yet to be apprehended, assaulted two workers of Ikeja Electric — Mr John Oluwole and Mr Uwaoman Ibiam.
“The accused beat up and bit the complainants while performing their duty,” he said.
He said that the complainants disconnected the electricity supply of the accused over unpaid electricity bills from January.
“The accused, who had not paid for electricity since the beginning of the year, descended on the complainants when they disconnected her power supply.
“The two other men who are still at large joined her in beating the complainants, and in the process, the accused bit the complainants.
“The case was reported to the police and the accused was arrested,” the prosecutor said.
The offences contravened Sections 174 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 174 prescribes three years jail term for a person guilty of assault.
The accused, however, pleaded innocence of the offences and was granted bail in the sum of N20,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mr J.A. Adigun, said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case until Jan. 5, for mention.

Gov. Seriake Dickson

The National Reconciliation Committee of the People’s Democratic Party led by Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa on Tuesday visited some aggrieved members as part of efforts to forge a post-convention reconciliation within the party.
Among the party members visited by the Dickson team was former National Chairmanship aspirant, Prof. Tunde Adeniran, Special Adviser Media Relations to Governor Dickson, Mr Fidelis Soriwei, revealed in a statement in Abuja.
Also visited by Dickson were former Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ibrahim Mantu, a former Minister of Information and Orientation, Prof Jerry Gana, and former Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Ina Ciroma, who contested for the position of Deputy National Chairman, North.
According to Dickson, all his hosts were positive on the need to have a united and strong party.
Adeniran, who lost to Prince Uche Secondus, for the top party job, told Dickson to reach out to all candidates and as many members of the party in the bid to reconcile.
Adeniran said that it was important to also reach out to as many members of the PDP who did not contest for any position but fought gallantly to ensure the preservation of the party.
“We should try to interact with various players; I will suggest that we should not leave any stone unturned to reach out as much as possible.
“There are those of us who carried the flag, but there are some others who are key players in this party, who may not even contest for positions but they are no less concerned about this party.
“When you look back, you can see some of those key members of the concerned stakeholders who fought gallantly to ensure that indeed this party survived.
“So let the contacts, the consultations, be as all embracing as possible; it takes time, it takes energy but then what is worth doing is what is worth doing,” Adeniran said.
Adeniran said that Dickson assumed the position of the chief conciliator of the party not just because he “is a governor but because of his commitment to the party, his integrity and sense of fairness and justice.”
He added that no genuine member of the PDP would doubt the eligibility of Dickson for his role as the head of the party’s team on reconciliation.
“You said something earlier on that may be, what prompted you to lead this team is because you are a governor.
“I believe far much more than that; there are certain qualities that majority of us have come to appreciate in you ,which you should keep up.”
Former Minister of Information and Orientation, Prof Jerry Gana, said he would never leave the PDP for whatever reason.
Former Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ibrahim Mantu. advised the PDP to focus on the 2019 elections, and strive hard to restore the party’s lost glory

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are attending a summit in Paris today aimed at accelerating efforts to set up a West African force to battle Jihadists in the Sahel region.
The G5 Sahel – composed of the armies of Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Burkina Faso and Chad – launched a symbolic military operation to mark its creation in October amid growing unrest in the Sahel, whose porous borders are regularly crossed by jihadists, including affiliates of al Qaeda and Islamic State.
However, France, which has some 4,000 troops in the region, has bemoaned that the militants have scored military and symbolic victories in West Africa while the G5 force has struggled to win financing and become operational.
To achieve those ends, French President Emmanuel Macron is hosting among others the leaders of the five participating countries, Germany and Italy as well as the Saudi and Emirati foreign ministers.
Thousands of U.N. peacekeepers, French troops and U.S. military trainers and drone operators have failed so far to stem the growing wave of jihadist violence, leading world powers to pin their hopes on the new force.
“For the last few months, the activity of terrorist groups has not decreased and the armies continue to suffer significant losses, which means that there is an operational urgency to regain control of the region and to increase the military effort,” a French diplomatic source said.
Among efforts to widen support, Macron has pressed Saudi Arabia to take concrete actions to fight Islamist militants and asked Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to contribute to the G5 when he saw him last month.
Macron sees the full implementation of the G5 force as a long-term exit strategy for his own forces that intervened in 2013 to beat back an insurgency in northern Mali.
“The objective is increased military, political and financial mobilization,” the source said, adding that the aim was to get the 5,000-strong force running by March 2018.
Saudi Arabia has now pledged $100 million, a major boost for the force, bringing commitments to more than half the roughly $500 million the G5 Sahel says it needs for its first year of operations. The UAE is also funding a G5 “war school” in Mauritania that is due to open in January.
“Both the UAE and Saudi Arabia are interested in the Sahel. Getting a seat at the table, being seen as security stakeholders, is something that fits in their respective strategy. Both have ambitions in large chunks of Africa,” said Jalel Harchaoui, a geopolitics researcher at Paris 8 University.
Prince Mohammed is also setting up a separate Islamic military coalition, whose member countries can request or offer assistance to each other to fight militants. This could include military help, financial aid, equipment or security expertise.
The Sunni Muslim kingdom is also competing with its main rival, Shi‘ite power Iran, for influence across West Africa and other parts of the Muslim world.

The event was titled “The Terrifying experience of forcibly Repatriated North Korean women,” and was sponsored by the U.S. France, Japan, South Korea, Canada and the U.K.

“Pregnant women were forced into harsh labour all day.
“At night, we heard pregnant mothers screaming and babies died without ever being able to see their mothers.
