A handcrafted glove by a Nigerian schoolboy in Ekiti State state has been adopted as a memorabilia by the World of Little League Museum in the United States.
The baseball glove made up of cardboard and copper wires was the handiwork of nine-year-old Philip Adeeri Fagbenro, who plays for  Ekiti Kete, a  Nigerian Little League.
Lance Van Auken, the vice president and executive director of the World of Little League Museum, said one of his Facebook friends shared a picture of Philip with the homemade glove, and after getting in touch with Philip’s coach, he struck a deal to have the gear displayed as the centrepiece of a museum exhibit in Williamsport.

Thanks to a shipment worth about $47 in American money, or more than N17,000 , the glove arrived in June and has been “one of the museum’s most important artefacts” at its Connections Gallery, according to the museum itself:
“It’s made from cardboard, paper, glue, black thread, and copper wire,” Mr. Van Auken said.
“You can tell that Philip worked hard to make it authentic-looking, including the stitching. It reminds me of some of the equipment created or repurposed by children in the U.S. Before little league came along.”
Very few players in the Ekiti Kete Little League have gloves and other equipment, so after receiving Philip’s glove, little league international sent him back a brand-new Easton glove to replace the one he provided to the museum.
In addition to the glove, Little League also provided Philip’s league with a kit of other baseball equipment, as well as school supplies for the school which he attends.
The 2018 Little League World Series began on 16 August with Asia-Pacific beating Caribbean 4-2 and  Mid-Atlantic also beating  Midwest 5- 2
Other games on the opening day saw  Mexico beating  Australia 3-2 and Southwest beating New England 3-1.
Other first round games on Aug. 17 pitted  Europe-Africa against Japan, Great Lakes against Northwest, Latin America taking on Canada and Southwest going up against the West.
The modified double elimination tournament continues with the international and U.S. title games on Aug. 25 and world championship contest at 3 p.m. the following day.
A team from Queensland will represent Australia with the other seven international entries and the eight from the United States to be determined in coming weeks.
The second MLB-Little League Classic with the Phillies hosting the New Mets will be played at historic Bowman Field in Williamsport on Aug. 19.

President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to jail more of those who brought the nation into its present economic situation.

The President said this on Saturday at the Aso Villa in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

“We are going to jail more of the thieves, you know, that brought the economic problem to the country. I think this is really expected of me and I will do it,” he said.

President Buhari made the vow in an interview shortly after he returned to the country from his 10-day vacation in London.

The remarks were part of the Federal Government’s anti-corruption drive and in line with the resolve to fight the menace of corruption to the barest minimum in the country.

President Buhari also reacted to the defection of some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He advised the defected members and other political leaders across the country to allow the people to perform their civic responsibility of electing whoever they want as their leader.

The President also stressed the need for more awareness campaign to enlighten the citizens ahead of the general elections in 2019.

He said, “Let people choose what party they want to belong to, but let them make sure that they have empowered their constituencies by educating them (Voters Registration) and making sure that they’ve got their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and that they use their right as Nigerians to vote whoever they like.”

“This is the beauty of democracy, this is what I am hoping to see,” President Buhari added.

The President, who left the country for the United Kingdom on August 3, was received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja by his Chief of Staff, Mr Abba Kyari, and other top government officials.

They include the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, and the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, among others.

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, and the service chiefs were also on the ground to welcome the President.

Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo has ordered the national flag to be flown at half-staff in honour of Mr. Kofi Annah, the former secretary-general of the United Nations who died on Saturday in Switzerland.
Akufo-Addo who described Annah as one of Ghana’s ‘greatest compatriots’, a ‘consummate international diplomat’, said he has ordered flags to be flown at half staff in all parts of the country and in all the country’s diplomatic missions across the world.
“The Government and people of Ghana, First Lady Rebecca and I are deeply saddened by the news of the death, in Berne, Switzerland, of one of our greatest compatriots, Mr. Kofi Annan”, the Ghanaian President wrote on Twitter.
“I extend, on behalf of the entire Ghanaian nation, our sincere, heartfelt condolences to his beloved widow, Nane Maria, and to his devoted children, Ama, Kojo and Nina, on this great loss

“Consummate international diplomat and highly respected former Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. Kofi Annan was the first from sub-Saharan Africa to occupy this exalted position
”He brought considerable renown to our country by this position and through his conduct and comportment in the global arena. He was an ardent believer in the capacity of the Ghanaian to chart his or her own course onto the path of progress and prosperity.
”Undoubtedly, he excelled in the various undertakings of his life, leaving in his trail most pleasant memories. His was a life well-lived.
“I have directed that, in his honour, Ghana’s national flag will fly at half-mast across the country and in all of Ghana’s diplomatic missions across the world, from Monday, 20th August, 2018, for one week.

Nineteen Nigerians residing in Nairobi were arrested today in a police swoop for involvement in electronic fraud.
According to the Standard newspaper of Kenya, the suspects were arrested in Umoja, Kasarani and Roysambu Estates within Nairobi for engaging in electronic fraud targeting Kenyans.
Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti said the suspects targeted Kenyans especially through the social media before they embark on lying to them.
“The fraudsters start by befriending you on social media (Facebook) and once you accept the friend request they initiate a friendly chat that promises the victim goodies to be sent through DHL at the airport,” he said.
The following day a call will be made and someone will pretend to be an attendant at the DHL office.
They will tell the victim to pay clearance fees for the same parcel they claim to have sent to a person.
“Immediately you send the money through Mpesa another call is made requesting for some more money for other documentation and taxes.”
”After paying the dues demanded, your calls demanding for your parcel will not be picked. That is the time you realise that you have been conned. This is therefore to warn members of the general public against such fraudsters,” he said.
The swoop followed a barrage of complaints filed with police over the incidents. One victim told police he had been promised an iphone and paid Sh70,000 for the gadget.
During the swoop, several electronic gadgets were recovered from the suspects’ houses.
Some of the suspects had come to Nairobi as students and as businessmen.
The incident come at a time when police are battling with a Cameroonian national in court who was deported last year but sneaked back to Kenya.
On arriving in Kenya Doctta Peter Longa threw away his traveling documents as part of efforts to frustrate his re-deportation.
He was arrested in Parklands after defrauding a businessman of Sh20 million on claims he would double the money. Cases of foreigners finding a safe haven in Nairobi for criminal activities are on the rise amid police crackdown.
