Fact checkers went to work Friday night to puncture some of the statistics quoted by Peter Obi, the vice-presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party at the live TV debate at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.
In arguing that petrol subsidy that he estimated to be a trillion naira a year was a waste, Obi said there are only two million vehicles in Nigeria.
Fact-checking revealed otherwise. According to National Bureau of Statistics(NBS), Nigeria has over 11.5million vehicles on the road, as at 2017.
Obi also claimed that intra-African trade is just a mere 9 per cent. He was proven wrong. Intra-African trade, according to Afreximbank Africa Trade Report 2018, is estimated at 15 per cent. In 2016, this was estimated at 18 per cent of its total exports and imports. IMF even gave an estimate of 20 per cent of the total trade volume of about one trillion dollars.
Obi was correct when he said oil exports still accounts for 80 per cent of Nigeria’s dollar revenue. However, oil contribution to GDP has dwindled to about 10 per cent, according to NBS.
But he was caught out when he claimed that his administration as governor of Anambra state was the first to buy up to 30,000 computers for schools. Twitterati said Governor Kayode Fayemi bought more in his first term in Ekiti State. He reportedly bought 48,000 Samsung laptops, 30,000 for students and 18,000 for teachers.
Despite the statistical goofs, Obi was praised by many PDP sympathisers for his performance during the debate.

Your Educational background sir?
 I attended Itesi Methodist Primary School, Adatan Abeokuta, Baptist Boys High School, Saje, Abeokuta, Government Science and technical college, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, proceeded to Federal Polytechnic Ilaro (ND), Federal polytechnic Ede, Osun State (HND). Then I later proceeded to Living Faith Bible College affiliated to International School of Ministry and Vision Christian University, USA.


After all my education, I decided to join the Nigeria Police Force in year 2011 in order to protect the lives and property of the citizens.


Tell us about yourself ma?
I’m Adeyinka Rachael Obabiyi born on 28th of May, in Abeokuta, from Abeokuta North LGA, Ogun State, into the family of Mr. & Mrs. Christopher Obabiyi of Elegun Compound Lanlate, Ibarapa LGA, Oyo state.

Your Educational background ma?

 I attended E.C.E Private Nursery & Primary School, Sabo Abeokuta, proceeded to Premier Grammar School, then further to Ogun State College of Health Technology, Ilese-Ijebu, Ogun state.
I also joined the Nigeria Police Force in same year 2011.


How, when and where do you meet each other and how do you woo her?

My first meeting with her was during the recruitment exercise at NPF Headquarters, Eleweran, Ogun State.
We keep friendship. I ask her out formally in November 2012 while in training at Police Training School (PTS), Iperu-Remo, Ogun State. The dating started in February 2013.




For how long do you court and what were your challenges?

We court for a year plus before going for our introduction in July 26, 2014.
Challenges are meant to happen but to the glory of God we overcome every challenges that comes our way.

How easy/stressful is your wedding before it becomes successful today Saturday, 20th of October 2018?

The successful of our wedding is achieved on God’s intervention, the maturity and understanding of the two families and only God can make way where it seems there is no way.

Wale Akorede, Okunnu
Popular actor, Wale Akorede, 50, popularly known as Okunnu, may have been in the movie industry for over two decades but he would never forget the day he earned his first pay as an actor.

In a chat with Saturday Beat, he said that he was so happy the day he was paid 60 kobo after a movie role and that he almost ran mad. The comic actor told Saturday Beat that the money he was paid motivated him to focus more on his craft and put in more efforts to be the best on the job.

“The first time I received money for acting was in 1984 and I was paid 60 kobo. When I was given the money, I almost ran mad. I was very impressed and encouraged to do the job; presently, I earn well for most of the roles I play,” he said.

Also speaking on what makes him look younger than his age, said, “God is the one who strengthens me; I don’t eat much but I take multivitamins to take care of myself.”

Okunnu is known for his comical roles in Yoruba movies, but the veteran said that despite being known for comical movies, he didn’t feel caged by such roles.

“I don’t feel stereotyped by playing such roles because I can still take up any role. I have played all sorts of roles in movies. But the funny thing is that even when I do serious roles, people still laugh because of the stereotype,” he said with a smile.

Okunnu also shared with Saturday Beat the reason why he would never stop acting. According to him, acting runs through his veins, and despite the challenges of life, he can never feel downcast.

“I am always happy; I don’t allow challenges to weigh me down. I loved acting as a child but my parents were not in support of it. I started full-time acting after my father died. I even ran away from home several times because I wanted to be on location. My mother gave me her full support when she started seeing me on screen.

“I used to be a proper businessman before, but acting runs through my veins. The field of business is a playground for me but there is no other profession I would rather do than this. Acting is my destiny,” he told Saturday Beats.

I’m ASP Abocheina Yakubu (rtd), Ebira by tribe, and hail from Adavi Local Government, Kogi State, born on May 18, 1964.

*Educational background Sir?

I attended LSMB Primary School, Ogaminana, Kogi State…..

 *When and how did you join Nigeria Police Force?

I joined Nigeria Police Force on August 1st, 1983 after writing my WAEC.

*Where was your first posting sir?

I was posted to Bops Kwara State Command, and then posted back to Lokoja when Kogi were still under Kwara State……
Then to PMF 15, Kwara State before I was later transferred to Ogun State Command, Idi-iroko Division.

In year 2000, I was posted to Police Training School (PTS), Iperu, Ogun State as a drill instructor; I was later transferred to Sagamu Area Command in year 2004-2006, before I was transferred back to PTS Iperu.
In year 2013, I was transferred to Sango Area Command, Ogun State as a provost before I later retired on July 31, 2018.


*How many recruits do you train?

As a drill instructor, I trained many people which I cannot recollect all the number of intakes I trained in PTS.

*Which intakes do you enjoy most out of those you trained?

I enjoyed all the intakes I trained during my period in PTS.

*Which intake gives you tough time?

2011 intake was the last set I trained and they were the toughest recruits during the period because I was fully in-charge then, while Inspector Keni-keny and Sergeant Oni Olawale were my subordinate.

*What was your experience then sir?

My experience during the period was that everyone came from different states; Ondo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, Bende, and other places from Abuja with different characters, and they must all abide with only Nigeria Police rules.

*What will you say about your son, Abocheina Ibrahim who is joining the Force as ASP while you are retiring with ASP?

 It’s all up to God, because my God have the way of doing His work in His own way.

*Your advice to the officers you left behind?

My advice for them is to trust God and put God first in everything they do and also have faith in Him.
