President Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has blamed those he described as wicked people for plundering the country, saying they have “kept Nigerians poor.”

The President said this in London Sunday while receiving a delegation of the Buhari Diaspora Support Organisation led by Mr Charles Sylvester.

He, however, noted that looking at the condition in which his administration met the country, without savings and the economy badly vandalised, “we have not done too badly.”

President Buhari said the damage done to the Nigerian economy in the years of plunder was massive, and that government was doing its best to recover some of the loot, although it was impossible to identify and recover all.

“If they had used 50% of the money we made when oil prices went as high as $143 dollars per barrel and stabilised at $100 dollars with production at 2.1 million barrels per day for many years, Nigerians would have minded their businesses.

“You could almost grow food on our roads, as they were abandoned. The stealing was so much, and they were so inept that they could not even cover the stealing properly. I wonder how all those things could have happened to our country,” he decried in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina.

The President, who noted that Nigeria was gifted with tremendous human and natural resources, regretted that the failure of some of the leadership the nation had in the past led to the inability of his administration to capitalise on resources to improve the lot of the people.

He, however, commended Nigerians who are in the diaspora defending the country, stressing that they have shown courage and sacrifice.

President Buhari further assured them that their confidence in the Federal Government would not be abused, as his administration would do its best to justify it.

He also thanked the Buhari Diaspora Support Organisation for deciding to identify with the country, “when you could have stayed here, and being comfortable.”
Responding, the coordinator of the organisation, Mr Sylvester said the group was happy with the achievements of President Buhari’s administration so far.

He noted that that President has overcome most of the challenges he met, especially in the areas of agriculture revolution, ease of doing business, anti-corruption war, employment of youths through the N-Power programme, and the blockage of leakages in the public sector through the Treasury Single Account (TSA), among others.

Sylvester also commended the efforts of the government in the war against insurgency in the North East, as well as his declaration to seek re-election in 2019.

In his word, the coordinator said, “We are proud of the speed with which you recovered the abducted Dapchi schoolgirls. It shows you as a worthy general. We are happy that you have declared for 2019. Majority of Nigerians are happy, but agents of corruption and darkness are unhappy.

“The same God, who healed you when you were ill, will grant you victory in the 2019 elections. You are a general who does not fear combat, either with generals or non-generals.”

“We declare our love and support for you. You are fixing the faulty foundations of our country and the second term is when you will build the enduring structure,” he added.

Mr. Ife Adebayo

The Federal Government has commenced Startup programme to build entrepreneurial spirit in youths, reduce unemployment and prepare them toward self-sustaining activities.

The Special Assistant to the Vice-President on Innovations and Entrepreneurship, Mr Ife Adebayo, made the disclosure in an interview with newsmen in Abuja.
He said the programme would involve the training of youths in innovation and technology among others.
He added that the programme would start from the North-Central and South-East region of the country.
“This is one of the cardinal objectives why the Federal Government engaged the private sector participants to support companies that would boost the economy in their regions.
‘’One of the best ways we can accelerate our exit from recession is to support companies to do much more than they are currently doing.
‘’Start-up Nigeria, is a programme that focuses on innovation, agriculture and technology. Everybody involved in innovation, technology and agriculture, within the two regions, will be supported to achieve his or her objectives.
‘’Globally, it is known that people who work in start-up organisations end up being employers of labour, and build their businesses from the ideas they got from such ventures.
‘’The start-up programme fully supports President Muhammadu Buhari’s goal and zeal, which stress the need to have more employers than job seekers in the country.
‘’Beyond the direct impact in the collaborative effort will have on the participating private companies, there are a lot secondary and tertiary impact on the nation.
“This is because as government reaches out to a lot of startups, they will in turn train more people on entrepreneurial skills and employ others,’’ he said.
Adebayo said the startup would be funded from the N500 billion Federal Government fund earmarked for the implementation of social investment programmes.
According to him, government will also engage and pay experts that will teach participants and offer advice and guidance on agriculture, technology, financing projects among others.
Adebayo, who revealed that over 400 youths from South-East and North-Central had so far applied for the programme, said that Start-up’s have the potential of changing lives.
The Vice-President’s aide advised youths to visit the Start-up website: www.startupnigeria.ng to register for the programme and enjoy the derivable benefits free of charge. LR News

A Bitcoin company in Calabar has disappeared into thin air with millions of Naira of customer’s money. As early as 8am yesterday, customers besieged the company’s office on Bassey Duke only to discover that the company had closed shop and vanished with their money.

Several phone calls were made by the customers but no response from the company officials that started operations about two months ago, collecting money from customers and giving them a whooping 30 per cent extra after seven days online trading.

As at yesterday, over 1000 people who were expecting their monies, broke into the offices and carted away any item they could lay their hands on as little compensation for their investment.

The entire premises of the company that occupied few rooms in the Bassey Duke shopping mall was taken over by frustrated customers and one of them who gave his name as Ifeanyi said, “This is things fall apart. I put in over N2.5million and now everything is gone.”

Another customer, who cried profusely, claiming he put in N5 million said, “I saw people collecting 30 per cent interest after one week that is why I also put in money. A huge part of the money I put in was even borrowed”.

Some National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members also invested and one of them said she put in N1.5 million and it was all her money in the world.

Another corper who put in N150, 000, said, “That money was all the money I saved in this my service year. This is painful, I thought I could do ‘business’ and help myself and my poor family”.

It was gathered that thousands of people invested in the scheme, as someone told The Guardian, “The crowd you are seeing today are just a few that have come to get their money. They made millions and disappeared with our money. I don’t know why we would never learn. MMM and the likes that promises quick profit have duped us in the past, yet we keep falling for them, including me. I put in N500, 000 into this one and now see my money has gone down the drain.”

The Presidency has flayed the report credited to Dubai-based journalist, Ahmed Salkida, indicating that only 15 of the remaining 113 abducted Chibok schoolgirls were alive.
Sakilda, a Nigerian journalist and self-acclaimed negotiator in the Chibok girls saga, had made this disclosure in a series of tweets on his handle, @ContactSalkida, on Saturday.
He said the 15 surviving girls had been married off, “indoctrinated and might no longer be interested in returning home’’.
Salkida, who claimed to be part of the negotiating team for the release of the girls since the era of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, enjoined the Buhari administration to ‘’demand for proof of life, as it carries out negotiations to secure the release of the remaining girls still in captivity”.
However, Malam Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, debunked Salkida’s claims in a statement in Abuja on Saturday.
The presidential aide stated that Salkida was neither involved in the processes that resulted in the release of the over 100 Chibok girls nor in the ongoing efforts to secure the release of the remaining Chibok girls in captivity.
He said: ““Following the numerous press enquiries on the information contained in the series of tweets by Mr Ahmed Salkida, we wish to reiterate that the information is not known to the officials of this administration either from the captors of the Chibok girls or the international intercessors who are working with us.
“”We wish to confirm that Mr Salkida is not involved, on behalf of the Nigerian government in the processes leading to the release of the over 100 Chibok Girls that have returned to their families, so far , and is not involved in the current processes to secure the release of those still held in captivity.’’
It would be recalled that President Buhari had on Friday reassured the parents of the school girls, that were abducted from Government Girls Secondary School Chibok, Borno, that “their daughters will never be forgotten or abandoned to their fate”.
The President, in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, in Abuja, noted that despite four long years since they were taken away by terrorists the government would continue its efforts to ensure their safe return to their respective homes.
He joined the Borno government, parents of the children and Nigerians in commemorating the fourth anniversary of the sad incident.
He also noted that the recovery of more than 100 of the girls that were kidnapped through the Federal Government’s determined effort should give confidence that all “hope is not lost’”.
The President re-affirmed that the government remained focused and determined to see the girls return to their homes.
He, therefore, urged the parents to be expectant of more good news in due course.
“We are concerned and aware that it is taking long to bring the rest of our daughters back home, but be assured that this administration is doing its very best to free the girls from their captors.
“Unfortunately, the negotiations between the government and Boko Haram suffered some unexpected setbacks, owing mainly to a lack of agreement among their abductors, whose internal differences have led to a divergence of voices regarding the outcome of the talks.
“We know that this is not the news parents want to hear after four whole years of waiting, but we want to be as honest as possible with you.
“However, this government is not relenting. We will continue to persist, and the parents should please not give up.
”Don’t give up hope of seeing our daughters back home again. Don’t lose faith in this government’s ability to fulfill our promise of reuniting you with our daughters.
“Don’t imagine for a moment that we have forgotten about our daughters or that we consider their freedom a lost course,’’ the President said.
According to him, as long as he remains the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces the Chibok girls will never be forgotten and all will be done to have them reunited with their families. LR News
