Stephanie Otobo

Stephanie Otobo, the Canada-based singer has recanted her story she was involved in a sexual relationship with Apostle Johnson Suleman of Omega Fire Ministries.
In a twist to the story she had maintained since March last year, she said she was paid to lie, opening herself to the risk of being convicted for blackmailing Suleman.
The singer in a trending video said she was approached and paid by politicians and some pastors to blackmail Apostle Suleman.

She said during a church programme in Auchi she fell for their bait because she wanted to further her career.
Otobo made the disclosure before Suleiman’s church congregation in Auchi, Edo state.
Watch the full confession here:

She was also shown asking for forgiveness from the cleric and his wife. This was drowned by the voices of protest by the congregation.
Otobo, last year March at a  briefing with journalists in Lagos revealed what allegedly transpired between her and the Edo based cleric.
She said apart from frolicking with the pastor in Lagos, she had sex escapades with him in the United States, Italy and revealed how they arranged their meetings and payments she received.
It was not clear what will happen to the libel case Suleman instituted against her in a Lagos court. Stephanie is also facing a police charge of blackmailing Suleman.
The case was heard on Thursday in Lagos, during which Stephanie asked the court to compel Suleman to allow an examination of his penis. Saharareporters was joined as a defendant in the case, along with her.
In the counter-claim filed on her behalf by her lawyer, Festus Keyamo, Otobo denied the allegation of libel against the preacher.
Miss Otobo stated that Apostle Suleman was aware that she is resident in Canada and not Lagos as he claimed. She explained that sometime in 2015, she called the preacher for counselling after she attended his crusade in Canada.
During the course of her phone conversation with Apostle Suleiman, she introduced herself to him that she lives in Canada, studying and working at the same time. She said she was surprised at how the pastor was flirtatious on the phone instead of providing spiritual counseling.
She further stated afterwards, Apostle Suleman started calling her and in one of the telephone conversations, he claimed his wife does not give him enough attention because she is too devoted to the worship of God. She claimed that it was the preacher that lured her into the amorous affair, inundating her with various cash gifts. She said she will present evidence of money transfers into her account by the preacher.(Read More in Saharareporters
Miss Otobo said what she did was to react to claims by Apostle Suleman that she was a stripper and prostitute all in a bid to discredit her, using some blogs and paid media men. She added that she only instructed her solicitors to privately write to Apostle Suleiman on his breached promise to marry her.
Miss Otobo asked the court to declare as libelous a publication on the website of Apostle Suleman’s church as well as a press release he issued and caused to be published on www.naija.ng and the online edition of the Sun Newspaper.
The young woman is also seeking an order restraining Apostle Suleman from further publishing libelous materials against her. She is also asking the court to award aggravated and exemplary damages against the preacher from whom she also wants the court to extract a public apology.
The police in March last year had docked the 24 year-old Stephanie at a Tinubu Chief Magistrates’ Court, and accused her of conspiracy, blackmail, threat to life and an intent to steal.
She was charged along with a 43 year-old, man identified as Wisdom Godstime.
The prosecutor, M. A Animashaun, informed the court that the defendants and others at large committed the alleged offence on February 14, 2017, at about 10:30am, at Police College, Ikeja Lagos.

Passersby saved the life of a security guard working at East Gate Hotel, Owerri, Imo State, Chizorom Anayo, when he was shot by a member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, on Tuesday.

Our correspondent learnt that the 43-year-old guard, who hails from the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of the state, was allegedly shot around 8.20pm by the NSCDC official attached to the state Commissioner for Public Safety, Chidi Nwaturuocha.

According to Anayo, he was shot in the presence of Nwaturuocha.

Narrating his ordeal to our correspondent on Thursday in the police hospital at Amakohia, Anayo said that he had just undergone a surgical operation on his shattered left leg.

The father of five was writhing in pains. He said he had worked at the hotel for twelve years.

According to him, the security operative shot him when a commercial tricycle rider was trying to seek refuge at the hotel while the commissioner and his men were trying to arrest him.

According to him, the commissioner was trying to enforce the ban on tricycles in Owerri metropolis by the state government with the use security operatives.

He said the commissioner and his men had gone to arrest offenders around Orji flyover, close to the hotel.

Anayo told Latest Reality Metro that in a bid to escape, one of the tricycle riders ran into the hotel, but the commissioner and his men came after the man and started beating him.

Anayo disclosed that when he insisted that the tricycle rider should not be killed on the hotel premises, the NSCDC officer slapped him and shot him in one of his legs.

He said that when the commissioner and his security realised he was seriously hurt and bleeding heavily, they fled.

He said he was rushed to the hospital, where he was immediately revived and operated on.

Anayo is calling for justice, lamenting that he had no money for his hospital expenses.

Our correspondent reached out to Nwaturuocha to get his comment on the case but he declined, saying that he had already addressed the press on the matter. But when told that our correspondent was not aware, he said he could not repeat himself.

But other media colleagues told our correspondent that they were not aware the commissioner addressed the press.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Andrew Enwerem, who confirmed the incident, said that the police were looking for the trigger-happy NSCDC officer.

Enwerem told our correspondent that the case was reported at Orji police station.

Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello

The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Friday accused the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, of recruiting holders of the Nigeria Certificate in Education to replace about 150 lecturers dismissed from the Kogi State University.

The Zonal Coordinator of ASUU, Owerri Zone, Prof. Ike Odimegwu, stated this at a press conference in Awka, Anambra State.

ASUU, Owerri Zone comprises Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Uli; Federal University of Technology, Owerri; Imo State University, Owerri; Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

Odimegwu said the governor’s action was capable of destroying Nigerian university education and ridiculing its certificates in the global community.

Odimegwu said, “This arrogant display of power and abuse of office by Mr. Yahaya Bello speaks volume about the extent to which some political office holders could go to crush perceived opposition to fulfil their ambition towards destroying the public education system.

“After the sacking of over 150 seasoned lecturers, Mr. Bello resorted to the recruitment of unqualified individuals, such as laboratory attendants, members of the National Youth Service Corps, NCE holders and even undergraduate students, to replace them.

“These actions amount to gross violation of International Labour Law, the Constitution of Nigeria and all known best practices in the university system.”

Describing the crisis in the Kogi State University as a recurring incident, Odimegwu alleged that it was caused by inadequate funding and erosion of university autonomy.

He said, “In July 2017, the governor, who is the Visitor to Kogi State University, Anyigba – announced the proscription of all ASUU activities in the university. This was followed by the sacking of over 150 academic staff members, who were on a lawful struggle to press for the payment of the backlog of their salaries running into several months.

“These lawless actions are clear manifestations of arrogance and very high level of ignorance on the side of Mr. Bello vis-a-vis the limits of his power as the state governor and failure of appreciation of the essence of a university.”

He accused the governor of humiliating ASUU member, and using students to threaten their lives.

He said those were clear indications of the deplorable state of affairs and mismanagement of the state-owned universities.

The union also accused the Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University of victimisation of ASUU members in the university, calling on the Lagos State Governor, Akinwumi Ambode, to intervene and save the university from impunity and dictatorship.

The Christian Association of Nigeria on Friday accused leaders of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam of endorsing the killings by herdsmen across the country.

CAN General Secretary, Revd.  Musa Asake, said this in reaction to JNI’s allegation that Christian leaders were promoting violence in Nigeria.

The JNI, headed by the Sultan of Sokoto, Saad Abubakar, had earlier in a statement by its secretary, Khalid Aliyu, accused Christian leaders of fanning the embers of discord among Nigerians.

But Asake in a statement in Abuja berated Aliyu for ignoring CAN’s position on the ongoing killings in some states of the federation.

He said, “Instead of facing reality and admitting its ungodly complicity with the Fulani terrorists, the JNI leadership at its press conference held in Kaduna on January 21, 2018, embarked on character assassination, acrimony, vulgar abuse in its futile attempt to justify its ungodly, unpatriotic and wicked support for the murderous Fulani herdsmen who are also enjoying the complicity of the security agencies,  whose headships are occupied by the JNI’s cronies at the expense of the unity and progress of our dear country.”

The CAN scribe stated that the rampaging herdsmen were enjoying tacit encouragement from the JNI leadership, “the way and manner they did for the Boko Haram terrorists when they began thinking they were spreading Islam in the country.”

The Christian body observed that at no time did the JNI publicly condemn the criminal activities of the Fulani herdsmen since they began killing innocent Nigerians.

It added, “It is an open secret that the criminal activities of their boys have gone to the extreme because of the tacit encouragement they are getting from the leadership of the JNI.”
