Colombian Singer, Shakira

Pop star Shakira was forced to cancel the first swathe of concerts of her world tour Friday because of a problem with her vocal cords, the tour’s promoters said.
The Colombian singer postponed two concerts this weekend in Paris and a Belgian date on Sunday as well as a concert in Amsterdam on Tuesday “on the orders of her doctor”, they said.
The cancellations come after the “Hips Don’t Lie” star called off the opening concert of the “El Dorado World Tour” in Cologne on Wednesday, telling fans that all cancelled shows would be rearranged.
“We regret to announce the postponement of the dates,” promoters Live Nation said.
“It was under the orders of her doctor because the singer’s vocal cords are still recovering.”
“Shakira is really upset not to see her fans, and is thankful for all the support they have given her in this difficult period,” their statement added.
The singer is now due to kick off the tour in the southern French city of Montpellier next Thursday before a slew of Spanish concerts, which will end in her adopted home of Barcelona at the end of the month.
The star, who has a reported net worth of around 260 million euros (£300 million), was this week caught up in the “Paradise Papers” leaks.
According to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists she avoids tax by being domiciled in the Bahamas and has transferred the rights to her songs to companies in Malta and Luxembourg.

Dr Francis Ajang, A Consultant Gynaecologist with the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) has hinted of global new cervical cancer cases reaching 15 million cases annually by 2020.
Ajang made the disclosure on Friday in Fobur, Jos East Local Government during a sensitisation of rural women and girls on causes and prevention of cervical cancer.
The campaign was organised by the Yakubu Gowon Foundation (YGF).
The Consultant said that about 10 million new cases were recorded annually with seven million deaths each year.
“In sub-Saharan Africa, a woman dies of cervical cancer every 10 minutes. And 8, 000 new cases of cervical cancer are recorded every year in Nigeria,” he said.
He said that cervical cancer could be caused by infections in the cervix, which could be later transferred through unprotected sex.
According to him, oral sex can as well led to throat cancer when semen is been released by the sex partner (man) into a female’s throat.
Ajang stated that avoiding unhealthy lifestyle was very important and advised women and girls to imbibe the habit of constant checkups which would help in dictating the symptoms and can also be handled in time.
The symptoms according to him include abnormal vaginal bleeding, bleeding after sex and other abnormal discharges.
Prof. Theresa Madu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, on behalf of YGF, stressed the need for awareness on cervical cancer at the grassroots, considering the rising cases of the disease among women in Nigeria.
Madu stated that both male and females needed to be educated on the negative effects of cervical cancer on a family.
The DVC charged participants to take advantage of the seminar for the good of their health and that of the country.
Dr Ngozi Agomoh, another expert emphasised the need for women to maintain good general hygiene with their genitals.
She advised them to go for breasts checkup from time to time to enable early detection of the problem.
According to her, even though it was difficult to treat cancer at its full-grown stage, it could be managed effectively if detected early.
Mrs Rifkatu Barde, wife of Jos East Management Committee Chairman thanked the Gowon Foundation for bringing the awareness campaign to their area.
Barde called on the participants to make good use of the knowledge acquired from the seminar to stay healthy

The Nigerian Navy (NN) says it will on Saturday inaugurate 20 new patrol boats at NNS DELTA in Warri, Delta.
The Acting Director of Information, Naval Headquarters, Navy Capt. Suleiman Dahun, made this known in a statement on Friday in Abuja.
According to Dahun, the boats comprised 16 locally built Epenal boats and four Rigid Hull Inflatable boats, imported from South Africa.
He explained that the induction of the boats was part of the key priorities in the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Vice- Adm. Ibok Ete-Ibas’s Strategic Directives of 2017.
The acting director said further that the induction was aimed at boosting the service operations on the Nigerian Navy.
“Accordingly, the service deeply appreciates the support of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, toward the recapitalisation efforts of the NN.
“The newly acquired patrol boats will be deployed to boost the NN’s ongoing operations in tackling maritime five crimes,’’ he said.
Dahun named the five crimes as: ‘’crude oil theft, illegal refining of crude oil and other unwholesome security threats in maritime domain.”
Dahun assured all legitimate stakeholders operating in the maritime environment of the readiness of the service to provide efficient security for unhindered socio-economic activities and ensure national prosperity. (NAN)

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has denied paying the whistleblower that led its operatives to the recovery of more than $43million in an apartment in Osborne, Ikoyi Lagos.
News reports had quoted the commission’s acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu that the person has been paid.
But the commission’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren said the payment has not been made.
“What Magu said at the 7th Session of the Council of State Parties to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption in Vienna, Austria,  was that citizens should be encouraged to embrace whistle blowing because of the incentives attached
“To illustrate this, he stated that the gentleman who provided the information that triggered the huge recovery at Osborne Towers in Ikoyi  was already a millionaire based on the incentive in the whistle blower policy where information providers are entitled to between 2.5 and 5 % of the recovered  sum”, Uwujaren clarified.
Uwujaren further said: “We are currently working on the young man because this is just a man who has not seen one million Naira of his own before. So he is under counselling on how to make good use of the money and also the security implication. We don’t want anything bad to happen to him after taking delivery of his entitlement. He is national pride”.
“Magu never said that the young man has been paid. The Commission is not even directly responsible for the payment of rewards to whistleblowers.
“There is also no controversy about the exact amount recovered in the operation which was streamed live, the first of its kind, and witnessed by the whistleblower, security at the Towers and representative of the Agency which claimed ownership of the money”

Anambra Gov., Willie Obiano

The Ndigbo Unity Forum (NUF), a socio-political organisation, says it has adopted Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra, as its candidate for the Nov. 18 gubernatorial election in the state.
The declared its support for Obiano in a statement jointly signed by the President and Secretary, Comrades Augustine Chukwudum and Chinedu Onyebuch respectively in Enugu on Friday.
The forum said that it decided to adopt the incumbent after scrutinising the manifestos of the major candidates in the poll during its monthly meeting.
It scored Obiano’s administration high on security, saying that prior to his assumption of office Anambra was one of the most insecure states in the country.
According to NUF, no week passed in the state then without news of high profile kidnapping.
It said: “This fear of kidnappers forced many prominent sons and daughters of the state to relocate out of the state.
“Gov. Obiano, through his pro-activeness, has not only stemmed the tide of kidnapping in the state, but also sanitised activities in the then notorious Upper Iweka axis of Onitsha.
“On education, it is evident even to Gov. Obiano’s opponents that education has recorded a giant stride under the present administration.”
The group said the present administration in the state had rebuilt the dilapidated infrastructure in the schools across the 21 local government area of the state and ensured the welfare of the teachers.
The forum said that the administration built three flyovers in Awka, the state capital, and rehabilitated roads, including the Ekwulobia-Ezinifite road, Neni-Adazi Nnukwu-Akwaeze-Igboukwu road and Aguiyi by-pass, among others.
It said the four pillars of development formulated by the governor which placed premium on oil and gas, trade and commerce and industrialisation and agriculture had helped in growing the economy.
According the group, Anambra is the fourth largest economy in the country.
“We therefore call on the good people of Anambra to ensure that Obiano is re-elected on Nov. 18,” the forum said.

A 21-year-old escort in Washington USA, Marissa E. Wallen has shot a man in the back of the head for wrongly performing a sex act with her.
Reports say Wallen had shot her victim twice in the head and left him to die but police later found the man alive after three days.
The man was taken to the hospital and unable to speak, but he communicated with hand signals.
Wallen was subsequently arrested. She ultimately admitted to police she was an escort and had been hired to have sex with the victim.
She told police she shot the victim twice in the back of the head for performing a sex act wrong.
The 21-year-old who allegedly displayed little remorse is also accused of robbing the victim.
According to court documents:
Police received a call on Oct. 24 from the victim’s employer. The 36-year-old victim worked from home, and the employer was concerned he hadn’t logged in for work in the morning.
Police went to the victim’s location and found the door unlocked. Inside, police found the victim sitting against a wall in the master bedroom.
The victim was unresponsive, but awake. The fire department was called and crews determined the victim had been shot twice in the head.
The victim was taken to Providence Medical Center’s Intensive Care Unit.
Police obtained a search warrant to the victim’s house and determined credit cards and a handgun were missing from the home.
However, there wasn’t any sign of forced entry. Police reviewed security footage from the victim’s home that showed a young woman coming to the home five different times between Oct. 7 and Oct. 21.
Police identified the woman as Marissa E. Wallen, and said it was clear from the footage that Wallen and the victim were having sexual relations.
Security footage from Oct. 21 showed the last time Wallen entered the home. She walked in and left a short time later.
A check on the victim’s credit cards showed 82 charges totalling more than $10,000 was made between Oct. 22 and Nov. 5. Video footage showed Wallen using the victim’s credit cards at Macy’s and other locations.
“Wallen was clearly proud of her life as an escort and even asked us to call one of her clients so that he could post her bail,” court documents allege.
She is charged in Snohomish County court with first-degree robbery, first-degree assault and first-degree theft. Her bail is set for $1 million dollars.

Mr Babatunde Fashola

The Minster of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola has said that there was no fact in the allegation of diversion of 350 million dollars levelled against him and the ministry.
Fashola in a statement entitled: “Before Perception Becomes Reality,“ on Friday in Abuja, said that the ministry was ready to provide full, factual and detailed response when formally invited by the Senate.
The Senate had resolved to summon the minister over alleged diversion of 350 million dollars from the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA).
Fashola is also being invited before the Senate Committee on Public Accounts to provide a detailed account of revenue expended on Afam fast power project.
According to Fashola, before perception becomes reality, I feel compelled to make this Statement.
“The sum and substance of the allegations to which the ministry will provide full, factual and detailed response when formally invited are that:
“ An amount in the region of 350 million dollars being part of a 1 billion dollars Eurobond facility taken in 2013 has gone missing or has been diverted.
“That the ministry had procured a contract for Afam fast power and paid 26 million dollars or thereabout for it.
“With all emphasis, I state that there is no factual basis for the allegations.
“The ministry, my staff and I have done nothing wrong and we will collaborate fully with the investigating committee when called upon.
“ I wasn’t a minister in 2013, and that when government raises a debt like the Eurobond, it is the Debt Management Office that manages the debt and not the ministry.“
He said that NSIA had on Monday, Nov 6, issued a statement explaining that the money was not missing.
The NSIA according to Fashola had stated also that the 350 million dollars had been invested and that interest had even accrued on the money.
On Afam fast power project, Fashola said:
“The sum and substance of it is that, it was an investment by the General Electric, a globally reputed Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), to invest in our country and support our effort to get good quick power under our roadmap of incremental, steady and uninterrupted power.
“They offered to do this by providing Nigeria with mobile turbines of 600MW if we could find a location with gas and transmission evacuation infrastructure.
“The Afam power station fitted because it had transmission and evacuation facilities but all its turbines had been virtually run down.
“The investment was contingent on paying 27.9 million dollars, which was 15 per cent of 8 units of 30MW turbines each totalling 240MW valued at about 186.6 million dollars.
“This payment of 27.9 million dollars was made without breaching any law.“
He further said that the turbines have arrived Nigeria and currently at the Onne Port.
According to him, this is verifiable just as works are on going on the site , civil and engineering , preparing to receive the turbines and install other equipment already at site.
The minister said that his claims on progress made on the project could be verified by Nigerians, who may want to undertake an inspection of the project site.
He also said the project due to be inaugurated soon would add 240MW to the grid.
“We must be careful about what we say and do with regards to investments and investors, which we clearly need in all sectors of our developmental life and in particular in infrastructure and power.
“Unverified allegations such as the ones under discussion constitute an imminent threat to our investment climate.
“For the avoidance of doubt, there has been no wrong doing whatsoever,” Fashola said.

A businesswoman, Omirafe Taiwo, who allegedly defrauded a retired Assistant Police Commissioner of N20 million, was on Thursday charged before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Taiwo, 39, whose address is unknown, is facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, fraud, issuance of dud cheque and stealing.
She denied the charge.
But Sgt. Friday Mameh, the prosecutor, insisted that the accused and others still at large conspired and committed the offences at Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, between April and Sept. 21.
He said the accused fraudulently obtained N20 million from the complainant, retired Assistant Commissioner of Police Noah Adeosun under guise of selling a building to him.
Mameh alleged that on June 29, the accused issued a dud cheque for N20 million in favour of the complainant.
According to the prosecutor, when the cheque was presented, it was dishonoured due to insufficient funds.
The offences contravened Sections 287, 314 (1) (2), and 321 (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos Stat, 2015.
Counsel to the accused, Mr Jude Ozemoya, urged the court to release the accused to him, promising to produce her in court throughout the trial.
“The accused is my client, I know her very well and I will make sure she attends court’s proceedings,” the lawyer said.
In her ruling, Magistrate Olanike Olagbende cautioned the counsel to ensure that the accused is produced in court, threatening to put him in the dock instead.
She, however, released the accused to Ozemoya and adjourned the case until Dec. 5 for mention.

Steven Seagal

US action movie actor Steven Seagal and comedian Louis C.K. were the latest stars in the crosshairs of mounting sexual misconduct allegations on Thursday, following the downfall of Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey.
Portia de Rossi, the Arrested Development actress and wife of chat queen Ellen DeGeneres, accused the former martial arts expert and blues musician over an undated audition for a Seagal movie in his office.
“He told me how important it was to have chemistry off-screen as he sat me down and unzipped his leather pants,” the Australian-born actress tweeted late Wednesday.
“I ran out and called my agent. Unfazed, she replied, ‘well, I didn’t know if he was your type.'”
DeGeneres retweeted the post to her more than 75 million followers saying: “I’m proud of my wife.”
Seagal’s representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment, the AFP reported.
Actress Jenny McCarthy, who first accused Seagal in 1998, on Thursday revisited her encounter with the actor when auditioning for his 1995 movie “Under Siege 2” when he allegedly asked her twice to lower her dress.

Telling him she had been told there was no nudity, Seagal allegedly told her “there is off-camera nudity.” After she refused and ran to her car, McCarthy said he followed her outside and told her not to tell anyone “or else.”
“I thought about like, ‘I was the last girl that day. How many girls had to take off their clothes? How many girls had to do more?’ It just so grossed me out.”
– ‘Line gets crossed’ –
Seagal’s fame peaked in the late 1980s and early 1990s with films such as “Under Siege” and “Above the Law,” although he remains popular in eastern Europe.
He was last year accorded Russian and Serbian citizenship, personally collecting his Russian passport from President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin.
Julianna Margulies last week recounted an unpleasant encounter with the 65-year-old star, with whom she appeared in the 1991 movie “Out for Justice.”
Margulies, who later shot to fame for her role in 1990s hit series “ER” and more recently in “The Good Wife,” said a female casting director told her Seagal wanted to go over a scene with her in his New York hotel room at night.
Margulies, 23 years at the time, said that when she arrived she found the actor alone. “He made sure that I saw his gun, which I had never seen a gun in real life,” she told Sirius XM. “I got out of there unscathed,” she said.
In a New York Times expose published on Thursday, five women accused comedian Louis C.K. of masturbating or asking to masturbate in front of them or on the telephone in separate incidents dating from the late 1990s to 2005.
On Thursday, the premiere of his new movie “I Love You, Daddy,” was abruptly cancelled, and the award-winner canceled an appearance on CBS comedy chat show “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” the Times reported.
C.K.’s publicist, Lewis Kay, told the paper that the comedian would not respond. “Louis is not going to answer any questions,” he was quoted as having emailed.
The comedian’s accusers told the paper that his behavior was abusive.
“I think the line gets crossed when you take all your clothes off and start masturbating,” said Julia Wolov, one half of the Chicago comedy duo who both accused him of misappropriate behavior in his hotel room after their late-night show

Gov. Nasir El-Rufai

Kaduna State government has released shocking samples of the answer scripts of the 25,000 teachers who sat for a competency test recently, with 75 per cent failing woefully.
The appalling scripts have essentially triggered concerns about the future of Nigerian children and education standards. On Thursday night, Kaduna  and its incompetent teachers led Twitter trends in Nigeria.
The release of the scripts was a response to the organised protests by the Nigerian Labour Congress, school pupils and the disgraced teachers, some of whom flaunted posters proclaiming that ‘examination is not a true test of knowledge”.
Governor Nasir El-Rufai said the protests were in vain as his government will go ahead to recruit new and qualified teachers as planned. Over 18,000 applications have so far been received.
A teacher’s score after the competency test was administered

A teacher’s answers for elementary science and current affairs

The teacher of Nigerian kids cannot do simple sums and can’t spell triangle
“No amount of protests will deter the government from recruiting qualified teachers, while giving disengaged teachers the entitlements specified in their terms of service,” he said.
The governor urged all teachers who failed the competency test to continue teaching “as due process is being followed for those who are to be disengaged with 3 months notice. We will start disengaging those who scored from 0-59%.”
He justified the partial disclosure of the poor scripts: “Many times, the decisions we take offer us no political advantages in a polity long accustomed to the false allure of populism. But we do what is necessary, not minding the direct impact on us.”
Read this; you gotta cry for Nigerian kids. A teacher can’t write a letter

This teacher cannot answer simple questions on a simple comprehension passage

NLC President Ayuba Wabba, who led hundreds of civil servants to the state House of Assembly on Wednesday said the competency test used as excuse to sack the teachers lacked credibility and was unacceptable.
“It was a smokescreen to just sack workers,’’ he said, adding that legitimate institutions mandated to organise such examinations were ignored by the government.
“Teaching is a profession in Nigeria, we have teacher training institutions and Teachers Registration Council, why are they not the ones conducting the test?
“This is because they have sinister motives; that is why they didn’t use those institutions.
“They are doing this just to sack and reduce workers and we will not accept that,’’ the NLC president said.
“Any exercise built on faulty ground cannot stand; this is our position,’’ he stressed.
Wabba alleged that the state government also plans to sack 15,000 core civil services and 5,000 local government workers.
This teacher tried a bit getting half of the marks here

This teacher can at least spell triangle. What a genius!

Nigerian kids deserve better: this teacher will teach only nonsense

Northern Coordinator, Nigeria Union of Teachers, Bulama Abisu, has also condemned the sack of the teachers.
Abisu who led NUT executive members from the 19 northern states on solidarity visit to the state, called on President Muhammad Buhari to intervene.
“Teachers get the least salary in most states in the north, even the meager salary is not paid as when due with huge number of teachers still being owed by the government.
“The governors are moving from holding salaries to sacking teachers on the claim of incompetency when it is the same government that employed the teachers,’’ Abisu said.
Another sample work of a Kaduna teacher

This is surely outrageous, unexpected from someone teaching Nigerian children

Yet another proof of incompetence
