A Thai-based film company has joined the scramble to retell the dramatic story of the 12 young footballers and their coach who were freed from a flooded cave, one of the producers said Tuesday.

Since the ‘Wild Boars’ team were extracted from Tham Luang cave in northern Thailand two months ago, there has been a frenzy of media interest in the feel-good tale that captivated the world for weeks.

Documentary makers and Hollywood producers have tussled to get films off the ground, with journalists also spinning book deals from the real-life rescue mission.

A Bangkok production company called De Warrenne Pictures are the latest to agree on financing to make their version called “The Cave” with shooting planned for November.

“The project is already set,” producer Katrina Grose told AFP, of a movie that will be directed by Tom Waller — a Bangkok-based filmmaker of mixed Thai-Irish descent.

The operation to save the boys, who wandered into the cave after a football training session and became stuck as floodwaters surged in, involved expert cave divers from across the world.

They were found after 11 days huddled on a muddy ledge without food or fresh water, floodwaters lapping ominously below them.

An ex-Thai Navy SEAL died in the run-up to the daring extraction of the group, who were heavily sedated as they were carried, pulled and dragged free from deep inside the cave.

Initially, after their rescue officials imposed a blanket ban on coverage, fearing for the boys‘ mental health with the world’s media camped up in rural Thailand.

But efforts to shield the team have crumbled with TV networks jostling for interviews and the Thai junta organising a seemingly endless stream of media events.

In one of the most bizarre, last Thursday, the boys were encouraged to crawl through a mock-up tunnel in a recreated cave in a Bangkok megamall, where a zone has been dedicated to the rescue.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, says the refusal of President Muhammadu Buhari to sign the amended Electoral Act bill into law is part of a plot to rig the 2019 general elections.

The governor made the allegation in an interview at the Government House in Port Harcourt, rejecting the reasons given by the Presidency for the refusal to sign the bill into law.

“All they are prepared for is to write the results and let heaven fall,” he claimed.

The governor questioned, “Why has the President not signed the Electoral Act? What is the fear? What do you mean by mistakes? Oh my God, what is a mistake Errors you didn’t see by one month’s time? Errors for the first time, the second time, the third time. Does it not tell Nigerians these people are not prepared for election?”
Five months to the 2019 general elections, Governor Wike believes that recent developments show that the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government is not ready for the elections.

He accused the government of planning to “write results”, contrary to the wish of the electorate.

He called on the international community to take proactive action to prevent electoral fraud, including the revocation of visas issued to government officials who he claimed were working against the nation’s democracy.

“They should revoke all the visas of those in government who are opposed to democratic rule, principles, (and) rule of law,” Wike said.

“Let me tell you, whether you like it or not, this government is bent on eliminating the key opposition.”

Governor Wike also blamed the Federal Government for the cancellation of the Port Harcourt State Constituency III election, alleging that security operatives were used to disrupt the exercise.

A 28-year-old housewife and mother of one, Mautin Idowu, on Wednesday asked a Badagry Customary Court in Lagos State to dissolve her five-year-old marriage to her husband, Michael, to prevent her from committing suicide.
The petitioner threatened to jump into a river in the coastal city if the court declined to grant her request due to the alleged wayward behaviour of her husband.
Mautin, a teacher in a public school, said that she was tired of her husband’s disrespect for her family, his intolerable behaviour and lack of love.
“I was in 300-level at the Lagos State University Distance Learning Programme when I met Michael Idowu in 2012.
“He was a teacher and I was teaching with my National Certificate in Education (NCE) then; he proposed to me but I rejected because he was older than me.
“Michael told me that his wife divorced him with two sons and out of pity, I fell in love with him.
“Few months after, he took me to meet his family. When I got pregnant in 2013, we got married and he paid my dowry.
“But when I was seven months pregnant, I discovered that my husband had two wives and six children which he hid from me during our courtship.
“He lied to me, my world broke down but I survived the trauma.
“Michael kept me in a two-room apartment in a bushy area, but I still managed to have my baby,” the petitioner said.
She told the court that her husband abandoned her and her baby and disrespected her parents by shouting at his mother-in-law and hanging up the phone on her father.
The respondent was, however, not in court.
The court’s President, Mr Sakirudeen Adekola, adjourned the case till Oct. 18 to give room for an amicable settlement between the couple.

Maj.-Gen. Emmanuel Kabuk, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, has warned trouble makers to steer clear of the entire South-East.
Kabuk gave the warning on Wednesday in Enugu while addressing a joint security team patrol within Enugu township and its environs.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the joint security team comprise personnel of the Nigerian Army; Nigerian Air Force; Nigeria Police; Department of State Services (DSS) and Police Mobile Squadron 3.
Others are: Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC); Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC); Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS); Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Police Command in Enugu State.
The GOC noted that the security agencies were uniting their strength together to secure and defend law abiding citizens from misguided individuals and groups in the society.
“We are observing this training together to further improve our efficiency and proficiency in the internal security duties as well as understand each other better in the line of duty.
“With this exercise, we are clearly sounding a note of warning for trouble-makers to steer clear of the entire South-East and other places of 82 Division Areas of Responsibility.
“We want the existing peace in the South-East to continue unhindered.
“We will not fold our arms as members of the security community in this state and the entire South-East and watch some misguided individuals or groups to molest and intimidate innocent and law abiding citizens,’’ he said.
Kabuk maintained that the security community was not pursuing anybody or group but for peace to reign and people to go about their lawful businesses.
“The law will surely take its course on criminals that want to distort the peace in South-East and Nigeria,’’ he added.
NAN reports that the joint security patrol came against the backdrop of the Sept. 14 sit-at-home order in the South-East by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The joint patrol team comprising over 50 vehicles patrolled major roads, avenues and streets within Enugu township and its environs for over three hours.

Nigerians have continued to pour uncomplimentary reactions to the recent world rating that placed the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) at number 110 on the ladder.
The rating was based on administrative efficiency and border management aimed at trade facilitation and national security.
The World Bank ranked NCS low in efficiency and other indices of operational standards.
Nigeria took the 110 place out of the 160 countries.
The report for the West African sub-region, showed that Cote D Ivoire clinched the top position as the best performing country in trade logistics with a global ranking of 50.
Mr Increase Uche, President, National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos that NCS global rating was regrettable.
“When you come to the ports to do your cargo clearing, the service seems to be confused with what to do in order to transact clearing jobs.
“Regrettably, the ratings, such as this to a large extent determines the calculations of trading partners to a country as the shipping world will factor in all the pros and cons to maximise profit.
“The NCS Act that is still in use at the ports was enacted in 1958; there is need to amend it in line with current global trend.
“Most of the reforms that the service brings on board such as Nigeria Customs Service System (NICSS 11), an automation platform meant to ease transaction at the ports are not working.
“Port users are daily suffering for no cause of theirs while the shipping companies are ripping us off with demurrage,” Uche said.
Meanwhile, the Apapa NCS Area Customs Comptroller Abubakar Bashir has urged shippers to make proper declaration of their cargo during documentation.
According to him, compliance with such regulation will fast-track ports transactions and reduce cargo dwell time.
The customs chief decried constant system breakdown in the port and promised stakeholders that the issue would be improved upon. LR News
