There was mild tension at divisional police hqr's rumupiakani, Ada George area in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital where a police officer allegedly shot an army officer during a scuffle.

They stopped his vehicle and found a gun inside his car and when the men ask him a question, the army officer who was on mufti started arguing with the men on duty.

Confirming the incident on Thursday, State Commissioner of Police, Mr Zaki Ahmed, said both officers were involved in an argument.

He, however, regretted that two men who were dressed in mufti, could not resolve their agreement, thereby leading to an exchange of gunfire and the eventual death of the soldier.

Mr Ahmed further gave the assurance that the situation is under control as the two security agencies are expected to issue a joint press statement. LR News

An “irate” passenger who reportedly missed his scheduled flight was arrested at Melbourne Airport on Thursday after attempting to break into a Jetstar Airways plane.
The incident was captured on video by a traveller inside the terminal.
The video footage showed the man bashing and pulling frantically on the plane’s door, trying to get inside.
According to local media, the man was hours late for his original flight and became aggressive towards Jetstar staff.
They alleged the infuriated man then pushed a crew member and ran through the terminal gate onto the tarmac where he was able to access the stairs leading to the plane.
“We were sitting waiting to get on the flight and people went ‘oh my god, what is going on?’” a witness said.
Someone was running on the tarmac!”
“This man was trying to get up the stairs, he was physically fighting with the staff, punching and scratching them.”
`
The man was eventually restrained by baggage handlers and arrested by the police.
It was believed at least two Jetstar employees suffered injuries.
A spokesperson for the airline said baggage handlers went “above and beyond.”
“We praise our crew for safely handling this incident and restraining the passenger until police arrived.”
The man has been banned from any future Jetstar or Qantas flights and is set to face charges. Xinhua/LR News

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation, Sen. Danjuma Goje, has said that no provision was made in the 2018 Budget for any increase in minimum wage during the year.

Goje made this known while briefing newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja shortly after the passage of the 2018 Appropriation Bill.

He said the failure to capture the wage in the budget may have been because deliberation on the issue had not been concluded by the Executive.

“The government has not brought it. I think that the issue of minimum wage is still under consideration.

“It is still at the committee level with the Executive. When they bring it to us we will look at it; ours is just to make law.

“If the Executive decides to pay workers N100, 000 per day or whatever it is, if they bring the Bill and can justify it, we will pass it.

“When they bring it, we will consider,” he said.

The lawmaker also said that subsidy on oil was not captured in the budget.

He said “the issue of subsidy was raised on the floor.

“It was explained that the Federal Government officially abolished subsidy. So, it is not for us to introduce subsidy.

“If they want to pay subsidy in accordance with the law they have to bring it to us to appropriate.

“If they bring it, we will appropriate. For now, officially there is no subsidy,” he said. LR News
