Amosun, left with President Buhari and Governor Lalong

Gov. Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun has dismissed as mischief the speculations that he had defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or planning to dump the party over political developments in the state.
Amosun stated this when he fielded questions from State House correspondent of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) after a closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Sunday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that prior to Sunday’s meeting with the president, Amosun had visited the presidential villa for over four times within the past three weeks where he met separately with the president and the vice-president Yemi Osinbajo.
The APC National Working Committee is believed to have forwarded the name of Prince Dapo Abiodun to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s governorship candidate in the 2019 general elections.
Abiodun was declared winner of the Ogun State APC governorship primary by the APC NWC panel sent to conduct the primary in the state.
This declaration was against Gov. Amosun’s preferred candidate, Abdulkabir Akinlade, who was elected as the governorship candidate of the party in another primary conducted by the state’s APC officials.
Amosun had allegedly accused some political interest group of `misinforming’ President Buhari about `political equation’ in Ogun.
But, the governor pledged his political loyalty to the president and vowed to support his political ambition in 2019, saying, however, he would hand over the mantle of leadership to his preferred candidate, Adekunle Akinlade, in 2019.
Amosun, who was accompanied on Sunday’s visit to the Presidential Villa by the Alake of Egbaland Oba Adedotun Gbadebo III and a former Minister, Senator Iyabo Anisulowo, renewed his allegiance to the APC.
He said: “We will stick with (President Buhari) him. So, I want them to know that we are not going anywhere.
“I’m going to be with the APC, we are in the APC and even after his second term, which by the grace of God and the support of all Nigerians he will win.’’
Oba Gbadebo, who also spoke after the meeting, said his visit to President Buhari, whom he described as his boss in the army, was a routine one.
Anisulowo, onetime minister of state for education, said the people of Ogun would vote massively for President Buhari and all APC candidates in 2019.
“Ogun is very peaceful and is a very progressive state. Ogun is Baba Buhari’s state and we cannot allow anything to happen contrary to our wishes for him for his second term in office,’’ she said.

The police said they have completed investigation into the multiple Offa robbery incidents and sent the case file to the Kwara state attorney-general, Kamaldeen Ajibade, as instructed by the attorney-general of the Federation.
The police gave an update on the shocking robberies in which 31 people were killed, a police station sacked and six banks robbed on April 5.
“Investigation into the matter has been concluded by the Police and the case file sent to Attorney General of the Federation who directed that the case file be sent to the Kwara State Attorney General for prosecution which the Police has complied with since August, 2018.
“The Force has been waiting on the Kwara State Attorney General to take over the suspects from the Police for prosecution”, police spokesman Jimoh Moshood said today.
Ajibade, the Kwara state attorney-general is also a senior advocate of Nigeria.
Moshood gave the update in a reaction to an accusation by a member of the Kwara House of Assembly, Abdulrafiu Abdulrahman, that the police were about to treat the case of recently arrested suspects said to be dealing in human parts, the same way the Offa robbery suspects were treated.
The police then arrested Offa robbery suspects in Kwara state and took them to Abuja, where they made public confessions about their role and also implicated some politicians in the state, including Senate President Bukola Saraki.
Abdulrahman, who is Chairman of House Committee on Information alleged that there was a plot by the Police to use the eight suspected human parts dealers, when transferred from the State to the Force Headquarters, Abuja, as instrument of political victimisation.
He alleged further that ‘the Police were working to force some of the suspects to implicate prominent clerics and top politicians in the State in the matter’.
But Moshood debunked the allegations.
He said investigation into the case is still ongoing and the Police will definitely make the outcome public.
“Any individual or group found to be connected with this heinous crime will be arrested and prosecuted. The Force has no any plan to implicate any personality in the matter and there is no any cause for any innocent person(s) to be afraid of the law. The Force will not allow itself to be cowed, or obstructed from ensuring that the dictate of the law prevails in all matters.”, Moshood said.

The Presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, Obiageli Ezekwesili, has reacted to the recently released Global Competitiveness report, which ranks Nigeria 115th out of 140 profiled countries.

Ezekwesili, who is a former vice president of the World Bank for Africa, said on Saturday that Nigeria’s move from its previous position of 125 was a positive development.

She however noted that a lot needed to be done in making Nigeria’s socio-economic environment more globally competitive.

She said, “Moving 10 places on the Index is positive news for the country, but I must say that Nigeria has no business being in the lower rungs of the ladder as regards global competitiveness.

“With the right policies, resources at our disposal, and especially commitment from government, we can take a giant leap up the index and create a better life for majority of our citizens.”

A President Muhammadu Buhari support group, Re-elect Buhari Movement, has described the former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s endorsement of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s Presidential bid for president, as meaningless.

The RBM also frowned at the presence of top clergymen – Bishop David Oyedepo, Bishop Matthew Kukah and Sheikh Abubakar Gumi – at the endorsement in Abeokuta penultimate week.

The group, in a statement by its convener, Mr. Emmanuel Umohinyang, noted that the endorsement would count for nothing in the next general elections.

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Afe Babalola, and the Chief Executive Officer of Channels Television, Mr John Momoh, have said ethnic politics and unproductive youths are inhibiting development in Nigeria.

The two eminent Nigerians, who spoke during a convocation lecture at Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Saturday, expressed the fears that poverty levels and crimes would continue to soar until leaders refrained from divisive tendencies and focus attentions on how best to harness the potential of the youths.

Momoh stated that the lack of unity and distrust among Nigerians led to the formation of socio-political groups, including the Arewa Consultative Forum, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Oodua Peoples Congress, among others in the country.

He said, “They are all waxing stronger. Each of these ethic groupings speaks for their people; none speaks for Nigeria. They only talk about their ethnic nationalities.

“Across the length and breadth of Nigeria, ethnic politics can’t be avoided; our politics is ethnic -oriented. The grounds upon which presidents, governors and others are elected, ministers appointed, contracts awarded and policies are made are on ethnicity.

“At every election, importance has been placed on where candidates come from, rather than the right candidates for election. The only way we can navigate out of this conundrum is by finding a platform where national interest can be promoted and this will start with harnessing the potentials of our youths.”

Similarly, Babalola lamented that the country was in a crisis of unemployment owing to the widespread belief that one could only be successful on the payroll of government.
