Some Nigerians on Friday converged in front of the Nigerian High Commission in London, to rally in support of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The President is resetting the country on the part of growth and development, Mr. Stephen Kifordu, from Delta State who is the leader of the group, said on Friday.
He said there is no credible alternative to Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in the 2019 election noting that the group represents the aspiration of many Nigerians who want progress for Nigeria.
Kifordu said Nigeria is attractive to investors because of Buhari’s fight against corruption in the country.
He claimed that the previous administration gave room for rot and corrupt activities.
“We have a President in Nigeria that people can look at and trust that “If I invest in Nigeria, my investment will not be stolen.
“When we talk of security, he has done security in terms of Boko Haram and in terms of the Niger Delta,” he said.
Explaining further how President Buhari is ‘resetting’ the country, Kifordu said it is the primary role of the police and not the military to protect Nigerian citizens and President Buhari is enforcing this.
“The Police is the number one organisation that takes care of our security. It is only when we are under attack that the military comes in.
“In past years, we have seen the issue when the military jumps on board without paying regard to the police. Then suddenly when something happens in Nigeria, Mr President says deploy the police, people are saying don’t deploy the police.
“President Buhari is re-ordering up, he is resetting our country. He is bringing us back to the way things should be.”
This support rally came exactly a day after a group of people bearing Biafran flags staged a protest in front of the Commonwealth House in Westminister, London.
The demonstration took place as President Buhari and other leaders of the Commonwealth nations meet on Thursday.
Some of the protesters were seen carrying banners bear inscriptions of Biafra while others are calling for a referendum.
President Buhari on Thursday attended the Executive Session of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in the United Kingdom.
The meeting, which held at the Lancaster House in London, was declared open by Queen Elizabeth II.

The introduction of a national minimum wage of 20 rand (1.66 dollars) an hour in South Africa could be delayed by up to two months as parliament is yet to approve necessary draft legislation, a spokesman for the labour ministry said on Friday.

The minimum wage, a policy championed by President Cyril Ramaphosa as an important step to tackle labour instability and wage inequality, was approved by the cabinet in November and meant to be introduced on May 1.

Supporters of the minimum wage say it will reduce inequality and stimulate economic growth as workers can spend more.

But critics say it could lead to increased unemployment, already at record highs, with some employers unable to afford higher wage bills.

Labour ministry spokesman Teboho Thejane said the ministry was focused on getting the minimum wage introduced.

“The minimum wage will definitely be implemented. But it could be delayed by one or two months,” he said.

On Friday parliament’s portfolio committee on labour was still discussing amendments to the policy.

Sharome van Schalkwyk, acting chair of the committee, said the national minimum wage bill needed to be sent for redrafting.

“The Department of Labour must take its time and rework the bill for submission again to the committee.

“This piece of legislation is critical in our country, not only in fighting inequality, but also addressing abuse of vulnerable workers in some sectors,” van Schalkwyk said.

More than two decades after the end of apartheid in 1994, South Africa’s economy is still characterised by deep wealth inequality and high levels of unemployment. LR News

A U.S. court has sentenced former Liberian warlord known as “Jungle Jabbah” to 30 years in prison for gaining U.S. asylum by lying and also ordering the cooking of the hearts of captives and those he killed.
Mohammed Jabbateh, 51, who has lived in East Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, since the late 1990s, was found guilty in October on two counts of fraud in immigration documents and two counts of perjury.
He lied about his role in the civil war in his homeland and atrocities he committed, prosecutors said on Friday.
During the height of Liberia’s first civil war from 1992 to 1995, Jabbateh, while serving as commander of a warring group, either personally committed or ordered acts such as rapes, ritual cannibalism, mutilation, murder and the use of child soldiers, according to prosecutors.
An attorney for Jabbateh, Greg Pagano of Philadelphia, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Prosecutors said while applying for asylum in December 1998, Jabbateh was not truthful about his membership in the group known as the United Liberation Movement of Liberia for Democracy (ULIMO), and later ULIMO-K,
rebel groups that battled for control of Liberia.
Two dozen witnesses, including 17 Liberian victims, testified in the trial.
According to testimony, in one instance, Jabbateh ordered that the heart of a captive be cooked and fed to his fighters.
In another, fighters under his command murdered a villager, removed his heart and ordered the town chief’s wife to cook it.
Jabbateh later had the town chief himself murdered and ordered his widow to cook her husband’s heart.
During Jabbateh’s trial Pagano said Jabbateh had been framed by accusers who were desperate to blame anyone they could for atrocities committed during the civil war.
“These are tall tales of enemies settling old scores – not because they had personal experiences with him but because of what group he’s identified with,” Pagano said at the trial, according to a posting on his website.
“There is no greater motive than revenge.”
The case was investigated by special agents of Homeland Security Investigations, an arm of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Reuters/LR News

South Sudan’s army chief General James Ajongo died in Cairo on Friday following a short illness, government spokesman Michael Makuei Lueth said.
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the untimely death of Gen. James Ajongo Madut, SPLA army’s chief of defense force,” Lueth said.
Ajongo joined the Sudan People’s Liberation Army, the formal name of the South Sudanese military, in 1983, when the SPLA was still a rebel group fighting for independence from Sudan.
He was sworn in as army chief last year May.
According to a profile published last June by the website Messenger Africa, James Ajongo replaced General Paul Malong Awan, who left Juba after the announcement of his removal.
Malong later returned to Juba after being blocked from continuing with the journey to his home region of Aweil. After Malong failed to hand over the office, President Salva Kiir told his new general to assume his duties, and Ajongo took over the office without any briefing from his predecessor.
A few days after his appointment, Ajongo acquired a new job title as part of an army restructuring decreed by Kiir. Whilst his predecessor Malong had been SPLA Chief of General Staff, Ajonga was restyled ‘Chief of Defence Forces’.
In this capacity, Ajongo reports to the commander-in-chief, Kiir, with administrative supervision by the minister of defence.
James Ajongo’s military career began in 1984, when he was among a group of South Sudanese students who abandoned their studies at Rumbek Senior Secondary School and took to the bush to join the recently founded Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A). Prior to that he had attained a primary education at Bugo village, before going to Aweil Intermediate.
Ajongo was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the SPLA in 1984, after passing out of the military training known as shield one, equivalent to a military command course in a conventional army. He was deployed after the training as part of Jamus Battalion, where he rose through the ranks and held various command assignments in different places in Equatoria and Bahr el Ghazal.
General Ajongo held a Bachelor of Arts degree from Busoga University in Uganda. He was pursuing a master’s degree course in humanitarian law at the University of Great Lakes region in Kisumu, Kenya before his death.
Prior to his appointment as Chief of Defence Staff, General James Ajonga was the deputy chief of general staff for finance and administration. He moved into the position from the directorate of military operations, where he was deputy chief of general staff and served as the operational commanding officer at the rank of major-general before being promoted to the rank of lieutenant-general.
He came from Bar Mayen village in Northern Bahr al Ghazal, and was the son of paramount chief Mawut Unguec Ajongo. General Ajongo was a member of the Luo tribe, also known as Jurchol, one of the minority tribes in South Sudan.
He was married and had children.

Having been sued for allegedly caused the injury of an audience, magician David Copperfield has been forced to reveal the secret of one of his signature tricks.
Gavin Cox claims he suffered lasting brain and body injuries after agreeing to take part in the “Lucky #13” illusion in 2013.
Mr Cox, who had previously cooked for the Royal Family, has not worked since he fell over while being led through a secret passageway at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
The 57-year-old and 12 other volunteers were taking part in an illusion in which they appeared to vanish on stage, before re-emerging later at the back of the theatre.
Mr Cox claims he was injured when he was “hurried with no guidance or instruction through a dark area under construction, with cement dust and debris causing him to slip and fall”.
The audience member was taken to hospital with a dislocated shoulder but claims he suffered chronic pain, headaches and confusion when he returned to the U.K.
Mr Cox, who was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury and needed two fusion surgeries on his neck and shoulder, claims he has paid out more than $400,000 in medical expenses.
He is seeking unspecified damages in the lawsuit, which also names the MGM Grand, show producer Backstage Employment and Referral, and building firm Construction Management.
Judge Mark Denton said some parts of the magician’s testimony might still be conducted behind closed doors.
