A group, Vision Spring Initiatives, has called for increased sexuality campaign in the country, urging the government to remove restrictions on sexual and reproductive health rights.

The group spoke on Thursday while inaugurating a campaign, ‘My Body, My Right’ as part of activities commemorating the International Women’s Day.

The Project Coordinator, Mrs. Ngozi Juba, lamented that there was dearth of information among young girls which exposed them to abuse.

She said, “Many young people lack information on comprehensive sexual rights and this makes them vulnerable to abuse. It is also not cool for society to keep quiet on sexual education of children. Parents should educate their girls on how to make informed choices.

“Research has proved that young people are sexually active. If that is true, how do we ensure that they have enough knowledge and service and are not judged when they ask questions about sexuality? The government needs to look into our regressive laws on abortion because many girls are dying from unsafe abortions.”

A member of the group, Ayodele Oluwatobiloba, said women should be allowed rights to their bodies, including their clothing.

She noted that victims of rape and domestic violence should be encouraged to speak out.
