A secondary school pupil, Sopuruchukwu Onuoha, was on Thursday arrested by operatives  of the Owerri Area Command of  the Nigeria Police Force for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl.

It was gathered that Onuoha (18), who hails from Ekwereazu, in the Ahiazu Mbaise council area of the state, denied the allegation.

The victim told our correspondent that she was allegedly raped by Onuoha while her parents were away.

She said, “We live on Rotibi Street in Owerri in a two-storeyed building. We live on the first floor, while Onuoha and his parents live on the second floor.  My dad asked me to bring a phone charger to him on the ground floor. But I did not know that Onuoha heard when my dad gave the instruction. He sneaked in and hid in our flat.

“After I gave the charger to my dad and returned to our flat, Onuoha held me from the back, used his clothes to cover my mouth and forced his private parts into me.

“After he was done, blood started gushing out of my private parts. My pants and clothes were stained. The only thing I could do was to bite him in the hand.”

The victim said she immediately reported to her mother, who informed her father before the case was reported to the police and Onuoha was arrested.

When our correspondent visited the area command, it was gathered that a medical report issued by the Federal Medical Centre Owerri indicated that  Onuoha was raped.

The police confirmed the incident, adding that the victim bit the suspect in the hand.

Meanwhile, operatives of the area command said investigations were ongoing into the matter, adding that the matter would soon be referred to the State Criminal Investigation  and Intelligence Department.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, said he was not aware of the case.
