The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has met with the House Committee on Electoral and Political Parties Matters.

Professor Yakubu met with the lawmakers on Wednesday at the National Assembly in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

It was part of the efforts by the National Assembly towards resolving the controversy surrounding the approval of the electoral umpire’s budget for the general elections in 2019.

The talks held one day after the leadership of NASS cited the inability of the meeting to hold as part of the reasons for the delay in the reconvening of the National Assembly.

In a statement on Tuesday, they said both chambers had agreed to reconvene to consider the proposal this week after a meeting between the Joint Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Electoral Matters and INEC officials must have held on or before Monday, August 13, 2018.

Wednesday’s meeting was also attended by some INEC National Commissioners and top officials of the commission.
