Governor Akinwunmi Ambode |
The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode,
has called on corporate organisations to partner the state government by
sponsoring community development projects.
Ambode made the call on Tuesday at Gbagada, in
the Kosofe Local Council Development Area while opening the remodelled Araromi
Youth Development Centre sponsored by the Coca-Cola Company, Nigeria.
Represented by the state Deputy Governor, Dr
Idiat Adebule, the governor said community development projects were aimed at
improving the people’s standard of living and should not be left for government
alone.
He said, “Corporate organisations need to borrow
a leaf from Coca-Cola by sponsoring development projects. The government, in
turn, will continue to provide an enabling business environment that will
guarantee quick returns on investments.”
Ambode added that his administration was
committed to providing sport parks and vocational facilities in public places
to revive grass roots and school sports.
“Our plan as a government is to provide a
platform for the positive engagement of our youths and the discovery of
talented young people,” Ambode added.
Earlier, the Managing Director, Coca-Cola,
Nigeria, Mr. Bhupendra Suri, explained that the organisation had been adopting
strategic grass roots initiatives to inspire teenagers to actualise their
dreams.
After the opening of the facility, Adebule kicked
the ball for the commencement of a novelty match between some youths and
ex-players of the national team, including Peter Rufai, Celestine Babayaro and
Victor Ikpeba.
