Labour unions in Osun State on Friday declared their intention to commence a total strike to press home their demand for payment of their full salaries.
The labour leaders have instructed their members to embark on indefinite strike immediately after the Christmas holiday.
According to them, the strike is expected to commence on Wednesday, December 27, 2017.
The decision came on the heels of the claim that the state government has refused to meet the demands of the workers, despite the 21-day ultimatum issued to the government by the unions.
Addressing a press conference in Osun, Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in the state, Jacob Adekomi, directed the workers to proceed on an industrial action after the Christmas celebration.
Adekomi said the government has no reason to further pay modulated salaries to all categories of workers, just as the union would no longer accept the embargo placed on the promotion of workers since 2012.
He said the unions would ensure that the industrial action is effective after the Christmas break.
“With the 3rd Paris fund tranche, (FAAC) allocation and IGR including the local government allocation for October and November, it is evident that the state government can pay workers and pensioners alike their full salary and pensions, so why is this government refusing to do so?” he said.
“The workers will no longer accept this and that is why we are declaring this strike, so from the 27th, after the Christmas holidays, we expect our members to stay off work until government is ready to do the needful.” LR News
