Bovi And Basketmouth

The last edition of Glo Laffta Fest, held in Port Harcourt last Sunday was one filled with so much laughter, fun and a message to take home from the duo humour merchants of Basketmouth and Bovi.

While delivering their brands of side-splitting jokes, Basketmouth, and Bovi Ugboma used the occasion to counsel against domestic violence. They both cautioned men to desist from turning their wives into punching bags.

Basketmouth described wife-battering as evil, adding that any man who beats his wife is not decent. He called on men to treat their women with respect as equal partners and mothers of their children.

Similarly, Bovi condemned domestic violence in its entirety, arguing that it had no place in modern society. The comedian added that women are not meant to be maltreated, but cherished and treated like the queens they are.

Bovi later got the audience to sing him a birthday song even though his birthday was actually the next day. He said he wanted to take the recording of the large audience singing the song so he could boast that he assembled the massive audience for his birthday.

The crowd duly obliged him and some of his colleagues, led by Godwin Komone (Gordons), came on stage to join in singing the song.

Another comedian, Dan D’Humorous, whose birthday was on that Sunday also got a birthday treat at the event.

The event was the second Laffta Fest show to be held in Port Harcourt this year.

But unlike the April edition which was held at the Aztec Arcum Event Centre on Stadium Road, last Sunday’s show was held at the Hub Event Centre for the enjoyment of Glo subscribers in the Trans Amadi area of the city.

TwoCanTok, whose real name is Kingsley Kalu, opened the comedy night in spectacular fashion with jokes about the differences between the rich and the poor in society.

Olufemi Fagade, popularly known as Omo Baba, was next in line and he entertained the audience with very funny jokes, including a jocular comparison of songs by old artistes and new ones.

Benneth Daniel (Acapella), who performed next, sustained the tempo with his trademark jokes which were well received by the audience.

Ghanaian beauty, Juliet Ibrahim, and Nollywood actress, Uche Jombo, were the show anchors, while Kanayo O. Kanayo, Patience Ozokwor and Richard Mofe-Damijo added further excitement with their attendance as celebrity guests.

The next edition of the show will be held in Onitsha, Anambra State, next Sunday. The show will thereafter move to Makurdi, Benue State, and Ajah in Lagos.
