The Lagos State Government on Monday donated 120 power generating sets to the state police command for its 107 Divisions and 13 Area Commands to enhance security operations.
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode was represented at the event by Mr Oye Hassan-Odukale, Chairman, Lagos Sate Security Trust Fund (LSSTF).
The governor said at the presentation of the generators at the Lagos House, Ikeja, that security was a major agendum of the administration.
“We know the situation of security in our country today, and we on our part, need to be proactive to secure the lives and property of the citizens, and make Lagos safe.
“We urge police officers to maintain these generating sets so that they can last longer and serve you well, ” he said.
Earlier, Dr Abdul-Razak Balogun, Executive Secretary, LSSTF, said that the donation was in line with the state Light-Up Lagos Project to ensure that every nook and cranny of the state was well-lit.
“It is also in line with the government’s vision for secured and investment-friendly Lagos.
“I urge the police to properly put them to good use for the benefit of the residents, ” he said.
While receiving the sets, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Imohimi Edgal, said: “You are our most valuable partners in fighting crime in the state.
“You can imagine the confidence the public will have when they approach divisional headquarters and area commands and see they are lit.
“That will give them the confidence that their matters will be properly attended to.
“Power is essential especially in this use of communication gadgets. You cannot communicate properly with field officers if these gadgets are not well-charged,’’ he said.
He gave the assurance that the power generating sets would be used for the purpose it was purchased.
“We appreciate this donation from the Lagos State Government,’’ the police commissioner said.’’
