His abductors are demanding N15million ransom for his release even as police promise his safe return
Chief Isaac Nduka Eya, former secretary-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, was on Thursday, August 3, kidnapped in Enugu state alongside his driver by unknown gunmen.
According to a report on Vanguard, the abductors of the septuagenarian invaded his residence at the Independence Layout, Enugu and forcefully took him and his driver when his wife was not around.
His abduction was confirmed by the Enugu State Police Relations Officer (PPRO) Ebere Amaraizu who said the police have swung into action to ensure Eya’s safe return.
Speaking on his abduction, Eya’s wife, Prof Regina Eya said she was not at home when the gunmen invaded their residence.
However, she said that the kidnappers had called her to demand a ransom of N15 million. “They came in normally. I don’t know how many they were because I was not around,” Regina added.
Chief Eya is a two-time resident electoral commissioner in Ondo and Anambra states. He also served as one-time commissioner for Education in the old Anambra state. He retired from active public service more than 20 years ago.
