Washington Post reports on the continued absence of President Buhari from Nigeria. Meanwhile, former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, faults Nigerian leaders over a recent call-out by CNN’s Fareed Zakaria on Buhari.

Shortly after CNN programme, Global Public Square (GPS) hosted by Fareed Zakaria reported on the absence of President Muhammdu Buhari from the country, another foreign media, the Washington Post has reported on the issue.

The newspaper in a report on Monday July 31, stated President Buhari had been out of the country since May 7, seeking medical care in London, adding that the president was yet to disclose the nature of his condition.

Recalling the recent visit of some All Progressives Congress (APC) officials to the president in London, the report stated that the photos from the visit were first images of him since he left Nigeria. It also stated that this was Buhari’s second medical leave to the United Kingdom this year; noting that his previous trip was nearly two-months long.

The newspaper stated that Buhari’s poor health and absence from the country has raised questions about governance in Nigeria.

The Washington Post reported on how former Nigerian president, Umaru Yar’Adua sought emergency treatment in Saudi Arabia in November 2009, stating that Yar’Adua returned to Nigeria in February 2010, but he died in office just three months after his return.

On the programme Global Public Square (GPS) hosted by Fareed Zakaria, the CNN anchor had asked his viewers to identify the country whose president has not been in office for over 2 months.

Among the countries listed as possible answers was Nigeria, which indeed turned out to be the correct answer. Reacting to the report, Fani-Kayode said the shame the leaders have brought upon the country will be multiplied a million times in their lives.
