The property had been occupied by a faction loyal to Sheriff before the Supreme Court delivered judgement in favor of Makarfi. Following the apex court’s ruling however, the state executive led by Hon. Mashood Salvador has been making moves to return back to the property.
In order to prevent clashes between both camps, the Lagos state police command took over the secretariat. A new twist emerged in the crisis rocking the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the party’s Lagos secretariat was sealed off by policemen on Thursday July 27.
According to reports, the secretariat, located on Adekunle Fajuyi Way in Ikeja GRA, Lagos, had been taken over by heavily armed policemen earlier in the day.
The Lagos state police command, hence, took over the secretariat in order to prevent clashes between both camps. According to the command, in a statement signed by its spokesman ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, it had sealed up the secretariat “as a result of the little crisis between the two (2) leadership factions.” It added further, “the command is using this opportunity to warn both factions to maintain peace and order in the state”.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, the ousted former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made a complete turn-around, after initially congratulating Ahmed Makarfi over his victory at the Supreme Court.
Sheriff stated that he was in shock over the ruling, and was waiting to be briefed by his lawyers about the situation. His new reaction was contained in a statement signed by Dr. Cairo Ojuogboh, his erstwhile deputy; and Bernard Mikko, his faction’s former spokesperson.
